I called one place, $300 for clear windshield, $50 for tinted brow. $350 if I want the ultra (which supposedly blocks all the heat). It was 86 degrees yesterday and my interior was already crazy hot (I was using a sun shield too). I'm not looking forward to the 100+ degree days coming soon.
Did you try Alta Mere? XPEL, lifetime warranty and all that. They did a great job on my truck, but I didn't have the windshield done. I don't remember the windshield alone being that much but i might be wrong. I had a pic of their price list, but I can't find it now.

Yes it does make a massive difference.

This may be a dumb question, but have any of these people putting dark tint on their windows to drop the inside temperature tried to just leave the rear slider open?

If you notice, I have an XLT. Not all models come with that slider feature. I do vent windows, but I live in Texas. When I lived near Hyde Park, TO, ON, I never needed to do that, or worry about the heat in general. Heck, my brownstown didn't have AC., tho some had window units. There was an awesome polish deli across the street, wish I could go there today.

Yeah, 100F temps are right around the corner. Venting can only do so much. On top of that, leaving that slider open is a great way to give away your truck, or at the very least its contents...

Alta Mera street? Do you recall the name of the place?
Sorry, I meant the business: https://altamereplano.com/

I went to that Plano location but I know they have at least one other. Might be a bit of a haul for you if you are out west.

That does nothing for radiant heat, which is what causes the truck to get so hot. Ceramic film stops a high amount of Infrared radiant heat from ever entering the truck. IR is what makes the dash and other items get super hot.

IMO, ceramic film is definitely worth it in the South. But personally, I would not do the windshield, for two reasons:
  • It's expensive to do on an item that will likely get broken/replaced several times over the life of ownership.
  • I wear Polarized sunglasses during almost all daytime driving. As someone else posted, with ceramic on the windshield + Polarized glasses, it causes weird colors when looking through the film. Not noticeable on the windows, but annoying when looking straight ahead through the windshield.

A piggyback question. Here in Az we get a lot of rock chips and breakage and some times have our windshield replaced more than once a year.

Will insurance pay the added cost for the applied film? If any one knows or has had a windshield replaced that had the film applied?

I'm guessing PCO and everyone else in this thread has been talking about film applied inside the windshield. That isn't going to help much with exterior damage.

I know they make protection film for exterior application on windshields, but I have no experience with it, and have not searched the forum for it. Try looking for "windshield PPF" online or around MTC.

Never thought of that! That would be a great thing to have! Just this morning on my way to a job in Casa Grande, Az every time I passed a truck or car I waited for the impact of a rock!

An exterior film to mitigate a rock impact would be fantastic!

I already have 4 rock chips and the replacement never fits like the original. I get a chip repair kit with each rock chip and so far have stopped any cracks from spreading.

Jay Leno did a video on getting the exterior windshield protection done to his McLaren
It’s an older video on his YouTube channel but I’m sure if you search for something like that a bunch of videos will pop up

$80 to $100 to tint a full windshield is a good price. I'd heard $250 was more in the ballpark. I wasn't going to do it for $250 considering the likelihood of needing the windshield replaced at some point. The Maverick has a really strong AC. Between that and being able to remote start it for cool down, I'm still not sure I'm going to do it.

So much this. I am into my 2nd year of ownership, and already had the windshield replaced once. First chip was under 1000 miles, RIGHT in the drivers sight line, and the fill was awful but in spec. Didn't even make it another 1k after my replacement before I got some small rock chips. Only 6k on my truck.

I garage it, so saving the heat at the gym/grocery store isn't worth it, and I work from home.

If you are in Texas I would highly think about the fact your Windshield will eventually need replaced. No matter your following distance, some Brodozer with $800 /ea off road tires will cut in front of you in their pavement princess, ride the shoulder while texting and kick rocks up. I think it is inevitable based on the height/angle of the Maverick windshield.

I may just get the 50 dollar brow, that'll help, especially when driving.
