Unlike the EB, the Hybrid gas tank is hermetically sealed. Pressure builds up as the gas expands from heat etc.

How & Why does a perfectly working gas pump click off
when there are still gallons of space remaining in the Hybrid’s tank?

It is not a malfunction - it is a purposeful complex engineered EVAP system designed to trap the extra vapors generated by the slow gas sipping Atkinson engine.

I say screw it and use the same tank & EVAP system in the Hybrid that is used in the EB.
The tank is exactly the same.
I'm not supplying the pictures again - anyone can find them on ebay, with stickers showing which model they go to, because without stickers you can't tell.
The controls on a sealed tank are likely very similar as all are supposed to be for decades - no venting except when fueling.
You got the wrong side of the tank.
It's not taking more fuel above an EB tank level.
It's got more on the bottom after reading empty.

I wouldn't be surprised if most the components are the same for the EVAP system - just different required pressures for tank.
Fuel pump different for DI required pressures obviously.

This CEL is soooo easy to prevent by following tank fill instructions. When pump clicks off, slowly remove nozzle, pay your bill, go on your way. Trying to overfill does not, cannot, improve fuel mileage numbers. I messed up my fuel EVAP system on my F-150, cost hundreds to fix. Don't fall into the overfilling trap.

The EVAP systems and Gas Tank setups differ significantly between the EB & Hybrid according to google:

Pressurized Fuel Tank: The Hybrid uses a sealed, slightly pressurized fuel system to minimize fuel evaporation since its gasoline engine turns off frequently. This often requires a dedicated fuel door release button to depressurize the tank before fueling. [1, 2, 3]

Tank and Component Design: The physical fuel tank assembly, vapor lines, and specific emission connections on the Hybrid differ, meaning parts like standard fuel tanks or specific vapor hoses are not interchangeable with the EcoBoost gas version. [1, 2]

Operation Logic: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) handles purge and switching valve logic differently to account for intermittent internal combustion engine operation, making the hybrid prone to distinct software-related diagnostic codes (like P2450). [1, 2, 3, 4]”

There have been forum members who have performed potentially expensive experiments by filling well beyond the first click on their Hybrids. You cannot fill well beyond the first click like that on an EB…

Hopefully Ford will not bring the Hybrid’s EVAP/Tank/ECU system over to the EB - in the name of “Green Power”…

Good info on the EVAP system differences. Hybrid drivers are really flirting with expensive repairs by overfilling, but EB 2.0 (including all newer ICE engine) owners aren't exempt from same problems. I remember trying to fuel my F-150 with pump shutting of every .2 gallon. Really frustrating, folks behind you in line very unhappy, and you wanting to kick your own rear end. Been there, done that, never again.

I assume the Mavs Hecho en Mexico & sold there have the same fuel fumes evaporative system? The closed system is compromised if raw fuel is introduced. I can result in the inability to add fuel above a few ounces at a time. Replacement parts aren't too expensive, but intense labor required on some vehicles depending on parts location. Haven’t bothered to look up for the Maverick cuz I have no need. I stop filling first click.

I've never heard of experiment of filling well past 1st click on Hybrid - that would be interesting since the same filler hose is there to same location on same tank.

Fuel tank (hybrid version moved to current D from original B, otherwise same tank):
EB - https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-fuel-tank-nz6z9002a
Hybrid (cheaper!) - https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-fuel-tank-nz6z9002c
Rubber parts may be put in different places for vibration - but same. 1 filler hose in, 1 fuel pump out - with all the hoses hanging off it.
Ford Maverick CEL after over filling tank, anyone else? 1785960073141-t7

I never made claims rest of the system is the same.
Other parts. Similar functions, maybe different locations, of course different settings.
In both cases at least easy to get to the stuff.

EB similar parts - as mentioned different settings for some.

Purge Valve:

EB - https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-vapor-canister-purge-valve-assembly-k2gz6a785a

EB - https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-vapor-canister-lx6z9d653f

FTIV/TPC combo with FVVV/RV
Hybrid - https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-front-hose-nz6z9d665b
EB - currently no equal part

EB - https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-tank-pressure-sensor-nz6z9d333h

I'm sure existing parts on the EB fill in for the missing parts from hybrid.
Fuel vapor vent - keeps it sealed until you fuel. And testing. EB has similar ability too.

I stand corrected regarding my statement EVAP system parts are inexpensive, just labor that might be high. Your post proves otherwise for parts. But then what isn't pricey in 2026?

Ya - this is a case of if you actually did fry your canister - do your own labor, cause the part, ouch.
But one hairy cardboard removal - they are all exposed.
Makes testing very easy too.

On my F-150 I had a P2450 DTC, which is classified as permanent, meaning a consumer $100 scan tool won't clear it, only clears the light for a short time, but code remains & CEL light returns. The valve is located under the truck bed, between the gas tank & bed. Gas Tank must be lowered, & maybe driveshaft removed. I paid for that labor, not something I wanted to tackle. I love technology, but fondly remember my old 1959 Cessna 172, Straight tail, manual flaps, gravity fed fuel from wing tanks. Simple as can be. Emission controls wasn't a phrase 'back in the day'.
