Remember these deals?

I never seen the tapes ones, but definitely saw the CD's ones and definitely would love to go back and grab a few 100's of those, I still hold over 800 cd's on few lagauges, like 4 months ago re-riped it to my hard drive, at the past the capaity vs price wasn't so good so everything was on 96-128 kbps, now days is way cheaper so I re-riped at 320kbps.

Amazon is limiting me, freaking Spotify doesn't allows me to play in the order I want without paying, then they all the time collecting data. so riping my old cd's is my way to keep my $$ at my pockets, plus I can put at my smartwatch and careless about data or if I have good signal on the woods.

So big respect for the OP, I wouldn't go as far as 8 track. But is his truck and his project so go for my friend.

When getting the Maverick I took all my tapes, cd's and albums and copied them to multiple SD Thumb drives. A $3 dollar 3 gigabytes SD thumb drive (AliExpress) easily holds 600 songs and can be indexed by Carplay in seconds. You do loose sound quality from the old tapes and cassettes. For me it was A NO BRAINER to use SD thumb drives to play music on CarPlay and hot have to gerryrig a CD and cables to the dash. But also have an Iphone wirelessly connected to Carplay. It was not hard to do, and the beauty of SD thumb drives is no scratched CD, etc...they're pretty indestructible.

I still have 75 of them in a box that goes from the early 70's to 1984, the last year they were available. Fond memories of the ca-thunk between tracks while doing the humpty-dumpty!

There are maybe a handful of songs (less than 100) I have on cassette, that are absolutely not found anywhere else. Mostly because either I or a friend wrote and recorded them in college. I really need to dig that box out and commit those to the digital realm before it is too late.

For the other 29,738 (and counting) songs in my library, I pay Apple $25 a year to keep a copy in the cloud and make them available to me wherever I have cellular signal, which is 95% of the time these days. If I do get out of range for a bit, there is usually enough random stuff saved to my phone that I can make do.

Having an XLT without SXM (and no desire to add the third-party tuner setup) the real test will be how well the phone's SXM app buffers through those dead spots. We'll see this fall when I head out on a good road trip...

I recently got my 2004 model iPod working. It has 4,400 songs on it. I've been looking for a good tuner plug in. 99% of the time, I just stream what would be on the iPod anyway. So, it would be cheaper to not have a streaming sub if I can find a way to get the iPod to work with the truck.

I've turned into my father... where 90% of the time I'm on the road, it's in silence.
I hit a bump and go "ooh, never would've heard that with the music on" or "ooh, that didn't sound good" 🤣

I used to download all music and never used steamer apps. But it's so damn hard to find some music now days I just gave up. I guess I kinda fell out of the music lovers category. But I went through great lengths to organize music and playlists previously and my PC has over 16TB of movies and shows as well as backups to them all because screw paying for those apps that tell you what you can and can't watch and when or for how long... but oddly, when it comes to music, I stopped caring. This is the one compromise I make for simplicity.

I still have all the music, I just don't really search for new stuff (maybe because new stuff kinda sucks?) anymore or bother trying to set it all up per vehicle via thumb drives and devices. I just hit a playlist on Pandora and call it good. I hate paying for it, but it's literally the only subscription I have outside of Amazon and both I get discounts on so it's a total of $14 a month. Technically you can also pirate the music if you chose "download" to play it in offline mode. It's stored on your phone but it's encrypted and there are apps that will decrypt it and give the music to you.

But yea, my opinion is that if you want music, digital media is the way to go. Thousands of songs in one spot and all you have to do is put in a little bit of effort to organize them. Like we did when I was little with mixtapes lol. I think I had a new mixtape every week. Or Recording songs off the radio. I'd sit there all night just waiting for that one song and god forbid I miss the first couple seconds of it or I'd have to wait for it again.

Honestly seeing this post makes me consider going through my music again. It's been years. Add it to the list of things to do, because Pandora just increased by $1 per month and that's crossing the line 🤣 I did the same thing with Amazon when they increased prices. Shut it all down then I got an email saying "come back for $6.99 a month" So that's what I pay. Makes sense when I can't even buy laundry detergent locally anymore without spending $10 extra for less... Unfortunately. Anyways... I hate subscriptions and I need to motivate myself into getting my music set back up.

I have youtube music. Spent the last 7 years building my music files. The thing I like is youtube has made a "master mix" which I listen to on long 2 hour drives. It has a mixture of everything in this mix so I really feel satisfied when listening to it.
