One day I want to put a battery box in there. For a truck independent solar system to an 12v/110v ports in the bed. Gotta find the right stuff first.

It's a weirdly shaped spot that gets exposed to road splash. Far easier to simply work with the space inside the storage cubby.

I think the passenger side has an underside cover that shields the area from the road, but the driver's side doesn't. Driver's side also has the gap in the fender liner. Might be for the same reason.

I was thinking of making a aluminum splash guard under there. Atleast on the drivers side. The passenger side has a plastic one already.

The space between the inner and outer bed walls has always been wasted real estate since they changed to double walls.

Some manufactures are starting to use the space like in the Ford Maverick cubbies.

Other designs have gone to the extreme:

Why 12v? Modern LiPO3 use 56.8 volt such as a Bluetti power box like the big one on the bottom and it's already solar compatible. This is a 2KW with built-in pure sine wave inverter, weighs 68 lbs, powered our camper with limited refrigerator and A/C after watching TV and DVD player for 3 hours.

I made one for the drivers side, out of brass, which I had, aluminum would work, too. It keeps the mud and crap from getting slung into the bumper, I used the fittings from the mudflaps to secure it in place.

nice, I have the tools but no decent material so I went with the "other" brand of mud flaps.
I'll see how much they cover and post when my truck arrives. Might need an additional rubber flap at the top.

That's a lot heavier and more expensive than I need. Also nearly impossible to get on island. I plan on just using the smallest car battery or possible paired lawn mower batteries. I also wouldn't want to tuck something like that in the fender. My fridge and dog ramp already take up too much space. Any camping we do is overnight at most. Usually we just need enough power for a beach day. I really just want to setup a solar panel to be the main charge of the battery then add a "key on" power to charge it as well. The battery is really just there to hold a little volume. All in I don't expect to spend more than about $200.

Those are substantial, would have saved me hours of thinking.
