2021 was on par with 1977 and 2022 is -1.2% less than 1979. If the past increases are any prediction of future spikes 2023, 24' and 25' should be substantial. Let's hope its not.

They're already projecting it's going to be BAD.

That's before Gubment starts messing with interest rates- they kept dropping them to try to counteract bad economy but that just kept digging the hole deeper and deeper. When the waters finally come in we'll just be that much more wet!

It is what it is??????. That has to be one the dumbest damn things uttered by man. So, I have no control over my situation. My situation was not affected by what I did yesterday and there is nothing I can do to affect what it is tomorrow. Seems like a robot with AI has more choice that the "It is what it is" believer. I understand it is a "cute" response thrown around for effect, but it is overused, IMHO. Please note, this is not directed at any other poster on this thread.

Besides that, nothing IS at it appears to be...... :)

Got an axe to grind? Try to think about my comments and not any kind of personality conflict you have with me.

I think you missed the point I was trying to make. Try going back and read them again... slowly. Without judgment.

It's true. Most of us don't have complete control of our surroundings. It's not "cute" at all. Fact of life. The only thing you can control is yourself. Once you realize that you'll be less of a tool.

You must be sheltered.

Please reread my post. "This is not directed at any other poster on this thread". Ax to grind? Not really. Just tired of seeing this saying being thrown around like it is some sort of solution. Sorry if I struck a nerve; it was not my intention. You may wish to reflect on whether calling someone a "tool" isn't a bit ax grinding, no pun intended.
Peace🕊

Cost of living for an employee affects how much the company needs to pay them. Across the entire country prices have risen pretty sharply- the Army adjusts pay every year due to true inflation- cost indexes of lots of things- and the January 2023 was the hugest jump in decades.
I just started on Social Security last year, and inflation (3rd quarter of previous year to be exact) influences whether I get a COLA- or not. This Wednesday I get my 1st payment of 2023- with my 8.7% raise included. I never got an 8.7% COLA in 1 bump in 40 years in the workforce. I hope nobody "calls BS on inflation" this coming 3rd quarter of 2023 so I get another big raise ;)

Back to the topic at hand…

I bought a tonneau from Real Truck and got a great price by mentioning I was an MTC member. Shipping was very quick. Strongly recommend pinging them for pricing on whatever you want, I doubt you’ll get a better deal.

You sound like my wife. I say that a decent bit, and she used to hate it. But she has started saying it herself as she sees the wisdom in the statement. It doesn't mean we are a victim of circumstances. It means there are things we cannot control, and should accept those things. Then we react to those things to try and achieve desired effects. Once you accept it, you feel less anxiety because you aren't worrying over things you cannot change. You are focusing on the things you can.

First, I think there are many fewer things we "control" than we think we may. I learned many years ago not to obsess or even worry about the things I do not have the capability to change. I have not, perhaps incorrectly, ever associated this statement with the recognition that I do not have control. More often it appears to me as I see it used that it indicates the user just accepts things as he/she see it and cannot or will not influence or affect the final outcome.

If I jump out of a plane and the chute does not open, it probably is what it is. If I get notices from three credit companies about overdue payments and penalty charges, I can just say "It is what it is" or I can try to change my problem, even seeking outside help if necessary.

I guess I got totally turned off by this for the following reason. After retirement I have subbed in the local middle and high school for the last 15 years. I will not even venture a guess on how many times I hear that response when a student has a problem. Can't multiply? Hey, it is what it is. Spelling problem? Hey, it is what it is.

I think your use of the phrase as you see it and define it is great. Unfortunately, I do think many people, especially young people think it is a funny response. Sort of like the Dog ate my homework. Unfortunately, many also do not yet have the maturity to realize that the problem, which "It is what it is", is NOT one that they cannot at least partially do something about. My FORTY cents worth! This thread did begin about inflation right! My apologies for getting way off topic! :)

If this thread isn't about inflation than the OP should have thought of a better headline than "Buy Now Before Inflation!"

Hate to disrupt this deep philosophical conversation going on here but i have a apparently total off topic question,,,, how do you get the MTC discount ?
Do you have to call in your order, is there some secret MTC code ? I don't get any of that Gubment Cheeze yet so i don't mind saving a Nickle or two, but in the end , it is what it is.
