Well I might be old,but I am not an idiot.in my 64 years I have purchased numerous new and used vehicles, and have never needed an extended warranty. Waste of money in MY opinion. I can only say what works for me.
I also have never purchased extended warranties but that doesn't mean that's the right way for everyone. For some people they can be a piece of mind for the unexpected. Also, I truly think a large part depends on how long someone plans on keeping the vehicle. Are you trading it in for new model after 4-5 years? If so it probably isn't worth the added cost in most cases. What if you plan on keeping it a least 9-10 years? In that case it can make a lot more sense depending on the cost of the warranty itself.

Also to say that extended warranties are always a waste of money is just simply not true:

TLDR:
*Purchased Land Rover For $26,998 + $3,699 Carmax warranty.
*Carmax paid $21,276 in warranty claims over the life of the warranty.

just need an out of CA address, not need for real address. They deliver warranty by email so not a problem for CA residents
Thanks for info on Granger warranty

I do keep my vehicles a long time. My oldest is 52 years old, have owned it 31 years and have not needed an extended warranty.my other two vehicles are 15 years old , bought them new,and have not needed any work. Those 3 vehicles are all mopars.i hope my new Ford holds up as well! And maybe it's because I don't abuse my vehicles and provide timely maintenance? Also,my step daughter owns a 20 year old Honda Accord with 310,000 miles on the original, untouched engine. She's a teen tough, I don't expect that car to last much longer 😆

Holy smokes! I have not paid that much in warranty claims in my entire 48 years of driving numerous vehicles! And you paid that on ONE vehicle?

No, no, no, that's not mine. I was just posting a pretty well known story by an automotive journalist who detailed his experience with a Carmax warranty. As I stated above I have never purchased an extended warranty myself although for the first time ever I'm considering doing it for my Maverick.

I bought a plan from Granger. I used my points to reduce the cost. I bought a 10 year 60K mile zero deducible warranty with first day rental and lighting coverage. I have a 2024 XL Hybrid. Using my points i ended up spending $1095. I am retired and don't drive a lot of miles so the 10/60 works for me. Plus i have 4 other vehicles to choose from. The Maverick is our 'go to' vehicle, so it will get the most use. I got it 12/11/23 and it just hit 1200 miles yesterday.
I have a Jeep Renegade that i put a service contract on. 8 years and 60K miles. Even though it just turned 19K miles, the contract has paid out almost $3K in work. I paid $1200 for the warranty. So yes, i think they are worth it IF you get the right price. Granger has the right price. My dealer wanted $2500 and i paid half of that with Granger.

With all the electrical crap in these modern vehicles, if something goes haywire you could be paying out big bucks real fast, far more than any warranty costs. It's a Ford, get the extended warranty, chances are you'll need it. 🤣
Most extended warranties have a provision that if you wish to cash out before expiration date , you will be refunded on a pro-rata basis...I have utilized this several times so the full cost of said warranty is not lost in the event of trade or sale and what it actually cost covered your ownership period ONLY ! Now the observation that with all the electronic gimmertry they have on board now is a maintenance problem, is dead on correct ...half the time the service department haven't a clue what is wrong (it is the mad dash to self driving vehicles that only the too lazy to drive bunch wants) that has put us in the position we find ourselves now !
