Bumper Paint Peeling Issue

I get 3.6 to 4.5 mil, the roof is thinner than the rest. DeFelsko gage, part of my day job.

Carbonized Gray Metallic with zero paint issues, nada - 16k miles. Show car perfect? Hell no, it's a factory paint job that has not been corrected, but stripped clean and ceramic coated it is more than acceptable for a Fomoco paint job...

Some folks have some crappy paint problems no doubt, but it seems to be more accurate to say it is a your truck problem, not a Ford Maverick problem.

If you've read the paint process paper a fella posted on this site those numbers seem right. The writer stated, (2016), that the OEMs did not electrocoat the roof of vehicles. So if you remove the .8 - 1.0 mils of ecoat then the lower numbers make sense.

Calling people kids for taking issue with what is either sub par or even arguably defective paint strikes me as being... well... childish.

Obviously there is an issue with this vehicle and obviously it has nothing to do with the 'factory' paint job. There is an issue with the tier one supplier that painted the bumper. Ford has already reached out to the OP.
I'd go into detail on this particular defect but you all were told not to listen to me so I won't waste my time. You don't listen anyway. Just want to blame, blame, blame.

Got this lariat hybrid with lariat luxury package 2 weeks ago. Drove only 250 miles in the town only and just noticed that the paint is already coming off from rear door on driver side.
See picture.
I do not know what to do.
I have contacted the dealer but did not get any response.

No claim to paint expert here but that almost looks like damage due to movement of some kind. Hard to be sure in the pics but I would have guessed there should be a consistent yet small gap between parts to avoid vibration induced friction wear. Would be interesting to see if the gaps on your truck are the same as other folks and if any other folks see this..

Alternatively it might have been there since new with the bumper installed such that it hit and caused damage at that time.

OP, looks like one of 3 issues... First it is an adhesion failure. That much is pretty evident.
If the substrate is TPO, Thermal plastic olefin, then there is an adhesion promoter, not primer used on the plastic @ .1 mils. The paint could have lost adhesion at the adpro basecoat interface. Adpro to the plastic or in a few cases I've been involved in adpro to plastic interface. The plastic actually delaminates. If you can pull a small chip off and look on the back of it you can eliminate at least one of these. If there's black or gray on the back of the paint you can eliminate paint to adpro.
You are futunate that Ford has taken an interest. Probably because this is an actually paint failure as opposed to soft thin paint complaints.

It is frustrating.

Take it to a dealership w/ a body shop and let them take a look at it and determine whether or not it is warrantable. They will take pictures and contact Ford if necessary.

There is no paint war. Some folks just can't stand the fact that other folks may know more than them about a particular subject.
I stand by my posts pertaining the OP's paint issue. I've weighed in, Ford is helping the OP. Good for him.
OP please keep us informed as to what becomes of the issue. Ask them what the failure is also, (other than the obvious). Would be interesting what they tell you.

What next, the SN of the gage? How about the NIST calibration certificate? NACE cert?

I am just looking for proof but you dont need to provide any of that if you dont feel like. I will just file those numbers under opinion and move on.

I'll reiterate again for the slow people. Paint regardless of quality has to pass very stringent requirements...
Salt spray
Mandrell bend
Impact Resistance
Abrasion Resistance
Adhesion
DFT, yes total film build
UV resistance
Water Soak
DOI
Gloss
Color
I've probably missed a quite a few. My point being yes the paint may be 'thinner' but it also still has to pass these requirements. And yes it may be a pain for the detailer because of the 'thinner' paint. But that doesn't make it crappy paint.
It is you that are drinking the cool aide of bad paint.

There have been numerous reports of paint chipping with recent ford models. Its not just the maverick. And ford even got sued over it to have it covered under warranty. Yes, it's an issue. Assuming you drive a chevrolet corvette, that might explain why you don't have paint issues. If you had a ford corvette though, you wouldn't be saying what you are saying right now.
