A) Congratulations on bringing home your Maverick!
B) what about your son's comfort in the back seat? Was there any issue with that?
Immaterial. As we traded the Escape, wife immediately claimed the eventually-to-be-delivered Explorer. We've already agreed it will be our long-hauler. For scout camping, son can simply sit up front.

I am glad to see you ended up with a Maverick. It looks almost like mine, minus the FX4 wheels/stickers. I think you will enjoy it.

I am however, still baffled on how Ford is handling the Explorer recall. I don't see how they can title a vehicle that has a stop sale/delivery like that, and then say it is used when it has never left the lot. I guess the financing forces a title application for collateral and that triggers the status change from new to used. Effed up for sure. Hopefully they get the camera software/hardware fixed soon and your wife will be enjoying her roomy upgrade from the Escape.

Took the wife down to the dealership to look at her new Explorer after the doors closed. As we have a key already, we have access to it. Just won't let us drive it off. Wife is looking forward to the larger vehicle and more features.

Ford: vented seats in the Maverick, please! I used those in the F-150 this weekend while at the beach and LOVE them.

It makes sense for whomever hauls the kids more frequently to daily the Explorer (for now the F150) since the rear seat is so much larger. When you all travel together you'll probably be in the Explorer more than the Maverick, but I think I've mentioned that my 6'3" son rides in the passenger rear seat of our Maverick behind my 5'5" wife without any issues.

No doubt the Maverick will get better mpg than the Explorer or loaner F150. I had 2021 Explorer with the 2.3 as a service loaner recently. I had it less than 8 hours so I didn't get a lot of seat time but before the Mav I had a Mazda CX-9 and I didn't mind the Explorer a bit.

.. At any rate, I also saw you mention a topper for the Maverick. I don't like a fiberglass cap because I haul things taller than a topper will cover not infrequently. Maybe you've seen them but there are soft toppers now you can install and remove. Or you might be surprised what you can get under a tonneau cover in a Mav.

Yeah, wife and I are surprised how big the bed is on such a small truck. I was all on board for a cap until we did a little bit of testing with how much it holds. We should be able to fit everything we took the beach in the F-150 in the Maverick's bed with a tonneau.

So, the debate rages....

Yes, I have played Maverick Tetris a lot! This is 3 inflatable standup paddleboards plus our luggage for a 5 day trip, the empty spot got used for a cooler and food bag. The Ford soft tri-fold has a little give but you really can't overfill it or it won't close flush against the bed.

When/if the vinyl or whatever is on this tonneau fails, I'll probably upgrade to a Weathertech hard tri-fold.

Salesman called. Dealer is getting the "temporary" fix for the Explorers on August 7. They plan to implement and test it. If it works, they will deliver the vehicle. So, seems that wait is coming to an end.

Curious if my point about trading it in and the next guy being able to take it home immediately struck a chord.

Front and rear mudflaps. Got them from Amazon, so they aren't the nicest, but it's a truck. Took ten minutes to install and most of that time was grabbing the right one...

They look fine to me. When I bought them a year ago, there are very few options so I have Rokblokz. They do look better than that, but they were $150 so they better.

Anything is better than Ford Bronco factory mudflaps. $500 a pair. $1000 for 4 pieces of ABS plastic and some fasteners.

Between my 15-year-old daughter and myself, we have put just over 100 miles on it. The lack of seat profiles on the Lariat is annoying as I have to manually reset everything after she drives (we had it in the Escape, which made life easier).

No major complaints. I wish there was a little more control of what was displayed on the instrument panel. But nothing else for the moment.
