There’s cheaper vehicles than Mav Lariat with these sensors in the rear door. It’s a major hassle for me and if it was an option like the keypad I’d happily add it for $100.
Yea I'll never understand that argument. My Escape was an SE Sport AWD and it had it. It's MSRP was below what the Maverick XLT was and had less features overall because it was an SE. It's not like we are asking for real leather and ventilated seats in the poverty packages. I have a fully loaded Lariat.

It's not unrealistic to think the tailgate should have a sensor like the Escapes and similar vehicles of the same price do. Just because it's the "cheapest" truck we should give up features that come on similarly priced vehicles? It's a Maverick in the $30-40k range. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated side mirrors, Tremor packages, B/O sound, spray in bed liners, power rear window, sunroof... these options exist. The "cheap" argument is kind of irrelevant when you can get "luxury" options on the higher trims. It's just an unlock feature easily integrated into current packages.

So we know the Escapes have it, do the Broncos? Mach-E's? How about the F-150's when you go up in packages? My previous Ram had it. The new Tacoma's are getting a powered tailgate too (power up, and power down).

Love the truck. Have had it 2 yrs now.

needs a tailgate handle sensor for opening and locking. Constantly having to pull out the fob or go to the door keypad to open or lock the tailgate. Annoying as hell.
I get it, but far from a deal breaker for me. Consider you're getting one heck of a truck for the price points for each trim/package. Also, figure it's one less electronic convenience to go bad.

I don’t think some of you guys get it. You have to lock your tailgate because it locks with the truck. Being a truck and used like a truck this is a bigger hassle then it would be with a car. With my other work trucks I can lock the truck and work out of the tailgate without having to constantly unlock it every time I leave for a few minutes.

I want the tailgate open and the truck locked. They are two seperate entities on a TRUCK

Is there some way you can selectively not have it NOT lock with the truck ?

that would be second best to having a sensor on the handle.

Real simple solution if you dont like the tailgate lock. Remove the inside panel to the tailgate to get access to the lock/unlock solenoid, and un plug it. Then it will never lock and unlock with the doors. My key fob stays on a climber's D ring with my other keys and attached to my pants belt loop. I just click the button twice and open the tailgate.

I would like it to lock but only when I want it to lock. Not when I lock the cabin.

all it needs is a fob tied sensor like the door handle. I wonder if that can be added

Maverick could use a platinum trim with all these bells and whistles.

You also could take a couple of these features and allow them in certain packages on lower trim levels.

I could see a XL WT trim needing handsfree ways to unlock the truck while still requiring cheap and durable interiors.

Stick one of those adhesive keypads on the tailgate and you're all set!

I happen to LIKE having an electric locking tailgate. Never had one on my previous trucks.

Yes, when pulling up the Maverick after a Cosco run....I have to unlock the truck by touching door handles or inputting code on the ( wonderful factory installed ) keypad.

Would a button on the tailgate to unlock it be handy? Yes. But that assumes there is enough range in the key fob sensor to work that button. If there was a factory "option" to add one when ordering a truck I would probably pay $50 for it.

I paid under $34K for a nicely equipped Lariat. I am STILL very happy with what I got for the money. There IS a list of things I would like on a Maverick. Would have paid more to have them. NONE of them I NEED, just want.

If I am not mistaken, you can add the adhesive keypad to a truck/car that also has the factory installed/wired keypad at the door. Seems we tried that many years ago and it worked. In fact, now that I think about it, that might be worth looking into on my Maverick!
