Love the truck. Have had it 2 yrs now.

needs a tailgate handle sensor for opening and locking. Constantly having to pull out the fob or go to the door keypad to open or lock the tailgate. Annoying as hell.

I haven't been using the bed or tailgate much (my Rough Country hard tri-fold tonneau is not yet enroute) but I can see the nuisance factor involved with the tailgate already.

It’s like having an old school hatchback that you need to unlock at the drivers side door. Constantly need to get stuff out of tailgate or lock the truck with keypad then go to tailgate and it’s locked. C’mon

Most trucks don't even have a tailgate handle sensor. Certain well-equipped full-size trucks such as an F-150 Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum or a RAM 1500 Limited have a power tailgate with a button to push but you have to pay a lot of money to get that convenience. You're not expected to have that on a compact truck that was built to start at $21K three years ago. Plus, having the tailgate lock or unlock with the rest of the vehicle is nice to have since it's a nice anti-theft deterrent. My old Tacoma didn't have the ability to power lock the tailgate with the rest of the vehicle. So it's very easy to lock the cab but still have your tailgate unlocked unless you think to check it manually. The Maverick does it automatically so everything including the bed is locked. That's a plus in my book.

I'd imagine it's not impossible to disable the tailgate lock, but then it won't lock when/if you want it to...

Pretty much every hatchback has rear handle sensor. Not a huge expense.

my 150 has it my wife’s Odyssey has it, my brothers highlander has it.

truck needs it more than anything because tailgate opens to a bed area which is separate from the main body of the vehicle.

Doesn't it unlock if you touch the drivers side front door handle or is that just the doors (and possibly only on Lariats)?

But I do agree and my Escape had the sensor too - which was cheaper than my Maverick. As long as it detects the key - same as the front drivers side door - then it should open.

One thing I've never experienced though is the foot sensor to open a hatchback. Always wanted one of those.

Another little feature desired, another $100 to the MSRP... there's a reason Mavericks are way below the average price of a new car. Just some perspective.

There’s cheaper vehicles than Mav Lariat with these sensors in the rear door. It’s a major hassle for me and if it was an option like the keypad I’d happily add it for $100.

I agree it's a truck. I would be happy as a pig in s___.
To have the convenience to lock or unlock the tailgate with the power locks. Many trucks in the day, didn't even have locks on the tailgate, and when they did or do, you need to use the key.

It's a truck and I might add one of the lowest if not the lowest truck you can buy. Biggest thing I can see stop looking at it as a car.

Another thing the op new how it worked probably before he bought the truck. He sure as h___ new about it after he purchased it. So why the rant, two years, I mean two whole years later, sorry I just don't get it.
