There's a few out there! Really the only Miata I'd want to own. Like a modern Cobra. Here's a couple for you.

Windsor is old school, cheap and simple. Coyotes are new tech MONSTERS when built. I'll take the coyote every time.

Most of those Ranger/Windsor swaps were probably done 20-30 years ago, long before the Coyotes existed.

The 7.3 Godzilla is the new Windsor, simple but not as cheap.
It makes great power with simple upgrades.

That's because Coyotes are modern and desired. Not engines we junked 20-30 years ago. You want easyjust do a SBC or an LS.

The second gen Sport Trac (Explorer with a box)had the 4.6 mod motor.
The Ranger and Explorer shared the frame. The rear suspension is where they differed.

I agree with the above reasons. Besides, their V-6 mini truck already exists - they call it a Ranger.
Yep. Although the Ranger isn't that small anymore. I had an early '90s Ranger and it was pretty compact.

The question was asked at sema 2025. Ford racing stated the 300t package was there answer for increased performance. Also told there is no possible way any existing v6 and transmission would possibly fit in the engine bay due to emissions package ,engine package ,and transmission package.
Get a few VW / Audi engineers on it; they will find a way to jam a longitudinal 5.0L V8 coyote in there, but everything besides the oil filter (if you're lucky) will be completely unservicable w/o an engine out.

because of their width they are one of the hardest crate engines to retrofit,a hemi is easier( tired of the Ls bugaboo)

I know how that feels!!
Me too. This Coyote in my Mustang was only 10 pounds of boost on 93 octane with drag radials in this video. It would spin/chirp 5 gears. 2 guys over 300# each in the car. After this video I went to 15 pounds of boost on E85. My passenger was surprised.

Thanks for the pictures but it looks like that engine compartment is larger than the Maverick engine compartment.
Much longer anyway. Almost the whole engine is behind the axle in the Miata.

Increase your budget. The old saying when the kid asks "how fast can you make this" is "How much you got to spend?" Racing is not for broke people. But can can work your way up to a decent level with the right starting point.

My Coyote Mustang was an 11 second car out of the showroom new. After boost and fuel system it's in the 9's. That was my financial limit for when I built the car. $40k for the car, and $20k in upgrades a year later. My goal was a 9 second car, and that was achieved with a stock unopened engine.

Only 2 60 's Muscle cars were faster when this car was just a stock 3,800# car. The 64 Thunderbolt 427, and 68 Hemi Dart/Cuda factory race cars. My Coyote hit the 9's without ever removing the valve covers. A Windsor could never do that. Not even the 427 Thunderbolt or 426 Hemi Dart could either. Speed costs money. But modern engines make it easier! Pay if you want to play.

True they are about the same width as a 426 Hemi, or Boss 429. But still super popular swap engines. Even lots of Chevelles, Corvettes, and Camaros running Coyotes now.
