Lots of threads on this here. Extreme weather hot or cold kills MPG for hybrids because the gas engine has to run more often to either heat, or because the battery is powering the cooling. Either way the the engine is running more often and therefore uses more fuel.

If the Maverick's humidistat detects high humidity in the cab and if you have the HVAC system on, it's gonna run the A/C compressor, regardless of whether you turn it on or not.

With the AC off the fan runs slow and circulates air through the floor vents to check humidity and runs condenser to lower humidity may also raise temp slightly to get away from dew point taking no readily noticed air flow to do this. Maybe if you kept lefty and righty naked and sweaty?

Why have AC then....

Apparently he doesn't need it until 95°. I set mine at 77° must be the reason I can only get 41.6-43.8 dash mpg.
EDIT TO ADD: Side note = check tire air pressure 34at 25° after 10-12 miles at 77mph 28° dash tire pressure showed 39. Maxed later at warmer temp (?) At 41 psi.

Not warming up, it's comfy warm before I get out of the neighborhood, but I did notice a drop of 10 mpg on colder days. Once I got used to the hybrid, I was able to get 50 mpg. Now it's 45 and on colder days, about 40 mpg. And it's been barely freezing so far...
As for scraping: Rain-Ex De-Icer, spray, wipe, go.

Why are you warming the vehicle up for any time at all? I assume that you have a 2.0 and not the hybrid, which would do nothing during a "warm up". Heating you up in the vehicle is what the heated seats and steering wheel are for. You're just wasting a lot of fuel. With today's oils and the small block, you just drive it to get it up to temperature. Keep it under 2500rpm until the oil is up to temperature, and it will be fine, and so will you with the heated seats.

If I start my hybrid with my phone it will fire up the gas motor and turn the heat on

Gets so cold here some mornings (think -30 below or worse) that I've started up vehicles that felt like they were forged from a single block of frozen metal. Damn steering wheel barely moves, feels like manual steering until warmed up! Ya just don't jump in and take off on those days!

We moved to Fairbanks Alaska in 1972. My Dad had a Buick station wagon. One morning it was so cold the front tires wouldn't turn because the grease in the front wheel bearings had basically become solid. He had to change that out with lighter grease and put synthetic inner tubes in the tires because the natuarl rubber tubes would crack and go flat.

That cold can be tough on equipment.

Would maybe get a cheap one of these for my wife, but our Sienna is AWD hybrid and has seat heaters, so that is our snowboard trip mobile.
