I changed my XLT Maverick order yesterday, to add the $1730.00 LUX package to my order.
I did this because of the post about the Ford memo 2023 Maverick retail orders - Available capacity opportunities dated Dec 14 2022 Listed here on the Maverick Truck Club site.
There was no indication that making a change would also include a (non reversible) up charge of $495.00 to the paint color I'd already selected: "Cyber Orange".
I found the problem when I got a new Dora sheet, that not only had the LUX package added but also the paint charge.
I talked with the dealership manager, he called someone else at Ford, Ford has changed the price for the paint on the 30th of Nov, he said I was lucky they didn't change the base price of the truck as well.
He said that was the price protection, and that Ford really doesn't want you to change your order.
On top of that since the change has been entered into the system, even if I were to take the LUX package back off there is no way I can get back the original zero paint price.
So Beware, there where 3 paint choices that have the change in price Cyber Orange, Hot Pepper Red and Alto Blue.
So as we were wrapping this up at the dealership, my choices were: Original order plus $495.00, order with LUX $1730.00 plus $495.00, or walk away.
I bit the bitter pill and I'm doing the $1730.00 LUX package plus $495.00 to keep the paint I originally ordered.
YUCK, YUCK, So bitter!!!

If memory serves me correctly (I'm on my 2nd glass of wine) those were always 'added cost' colors, but the build sheets for whatever reason didn't reflect that for a period of time. That's what kept me from going with Hot Pepper Red on mine when I ordered it in '21.

Yeah, you were 99.999% likely going to pay for the paint regardless. That was always supposed to be an additional cost paint option, just like it was for MY2022. No need to be bitter about it. It was an obvious mistake in the ordering system that we shouldn't expect to be honored.

I had no charge on the cyber orange on day 1 of order banks being open. I am fully expecting it to be on the final invoice though. I was going to add the spra in liner/cargo management if it was available and not a constraint.

The dealer did tell me any changes would negate price protection. I was more concerned with a general price increase in the next 3–12 months or however long it takes to get my Mav

I'm sorry but you and your dealer are misinformed. Cyber Orange, Hot Pepper Red and Alto Blue were also up charge colors in 2022. It was clearly listed that way in 2022 and 20 23 in the order guides.

However it IS TRUE that there was a glitch in the order system when the 2023 order banks opened and the DORAs were not showing the charge.

However, I can assure you no one was getting those colors for free and you would have ended up paying for it on your final invoice when the truck got built.

Bottom line: a little confusion but you didn't get screwed. Enjoy the LUX package and merry Christmas!

It's against the law to offer a product for a sales price and change the price at time of sale. At least in the US (and I can't imagine other developed countries not having a similar protection as the notoriously business-friendly US). This would be a bait & switch. There are federal & state laws to prevent this.

An error in the order system could be an solved via an immediate note to allow a customer to change the paint or agree to the higher price, certainly not waiting until delivery.

Your mavs what $30k?
You're going to spend how much washing it a year?
So you're going to let this eat at you for the next how many months?
Untill you get your mav?
Maybe longer?
Gonna spend how much more on that lawsuit you're teasing?

What would Forrest Gump say?

Both the Order Guide and the Packaging guide that were released on 9/15/2022 showed Cyber Orange to be an extra-cost item, just like it was in 2022, so what were you using as your guidelines when you placed your MY 2023 order?

Like others have said, no need to be bitter. My original DORA on 9/15 did not show the extra charge for my Alto Blue, but it showed-up on later (10/1) DORA printings. But, I knew it was an extra-cost color, and expected to pay for it.

Against the law? You mean, like the THOUSANDS of people who ordered Mavericks at MSRP, and then when they showed up, the dealers tacked $2, $5, $8 or $10K onto the price and told the folks who had waited over a year to take it or leave it because that is the current "market price?" How has the law helped those folks? You see any dealers held accountable?

It must be nice in the fairy land you live in. Bottom line is, Ford clearly communicated the cost of the paint options in their online build and price tool, official Maverick order guides, etc. The fact that an order sheet omitted the charge was never going to stop Ford from including those charges on the vehicle invoices and window stickers. Ford was going to charge the dealers for those paint colors and the dealers were going to charge the customers.

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. Updated to include higher prices for specialty colors.

The only way I can see you are "screwed" is if the dealer originally gave you an out the door price you both agreed to. At that point, the dealer would have likely eaten the paint upcharge to avoid the loss of the sale.

However, once you ask them to change your order, the original agreement is technically void. It is part of the reason I am avoiding changing my order unless I absolutely have to.
