I use an adjustable hitch too...Curt 45901.
I just looked at this on amazon and I don't know if I am ready to pay a bit over $80.00 for a hitch with a welding job that to me does not look that good.

Go to Harbor Freight and get yourself something. Cheap and work just fine.

Harbor Freight 16.00 plus 8 to 10 ball plus 4 for the pin equals 28 to 30, and a 15 mile round trip when I have time.

I personally like this double-sided bar that is only $20 and includes both 1 7/8 and 2 inch balls. Works great.

Not to mention, if used in that orientation, the dent you'll get in the tailgate,,,

I have plenty of clearance with the tailgate down using the hitch as pictured.

Good to hear. After I got my truck, I measured something like 4-1/4" from the top of the 2" opening to the Ford logo, so I'm surprised to hear that with the Curt #49501 inserted with the "tall" end up, it clears. Thanks for the correction.

I do like that idea. Simple. With the top of the receiver right at 20" off the ground without a load it would seem as though I might not have to need a rise or drop. I do not own a trailer and since my FWD is limited to a 2000 pound load I would probably use a u-haul or it's equivalent 4 X 7 or 5 x 8 trailer if needed and for these u-haul at least says "must not exceed maximum allowable hitch ball height 25" and require either a 1 7/8 or 2 inch ball."
And, they have one in stock at the store I would go to. For strength, though, I wish the ball end had a steel plate of the open end.

It's rated for 5,000 pounds -- more than you'll ever tow with your Mav.

This is what I use, nice and simple. Also stronger than I'll ever need. Enough for drop and rise. Not all trailers are the same. I like to have options.
