Bed cover question

I have the standard Ford hard roll up cover. It leaks at the gate end, but I'm told that's an inherent flaw in all of them.
What it does on top of that is freeze closed and make it nearly impossible to open the gate.
I thought about getting a tri-fold as I read you can get them water tight.
My handyman has a soft tri-fold cover. I saw him fighting to open it one cold morning.
Are there any covers that are water tight that don't freeze?

You can loosen the 4 bolts at the cab end and adjust your cover so it fits tighter to the tailgate

Mine freezes too, I have to fiddle with the latches to release it when it's frozen but it sort of rolls up anyhow. Bit of a PITA, but it's the best tonneau for my overall needs so I can live with the downsides for a few months per year.

It's difficult to make a bed cover completely water proof. Hard trifold tonneau covers that sit above the bed rails and above the end of the tailgate are fairly waterproof except for the gaps around the sides of the tailgate. Probably more freeze resistant because you haven't got many hinges to deal with

I bought a soft trifold and live in North Idaho where it gets pretty cold! Last week we had about 7" of snow and I have had zero issues with it freezing to the bed rails or being able to open my tailgate. I did test fit it before clamping everything down and even used a tape measure to make sure it was the same distance front to back on both the left and right rear. I have had tonneau covers in the past (the old snap style) that if you opened in the Winter, you had to wait until Spring to put it back on! I picked this trifold up on Amazon on Black Friday and only paid $150 for it. So far, very satisfied with it! Keeps my groceries dry as well as the bed. I also 3D printed hooks that slide into my rails out of ABS to hang the grocery bags on, 4 on each side.

Yea . never had this freezing problem with my undercover armor tonneau . probably because I live near Orlando FL . waterproof probably not . I had a modified dibl that let water ( if there was a leak ?) to run under it and out the drainage holes in bed . never check for leakage because not a great concern . when traveling always kept concerning items in plastic containers with lids . My tonneau allowed tailgate to open either way ( tonneau open or closed ) . you can get products for tailgate to help keep water intrusion to a minimum . bought this tonneau more for security than water issues .

I too have the Ford hard roll up cover. Leakage is minimal. It does freeze up preventing rollup. The tailgate opens when frozen. The side rails for the cover were mounted all the way forward. For my money, this was the best cover although a PITA when frozen.

Wish I would’ve designed them, but alas I didn’t! Found a guy online with a bunch of Maverick 3D designs. Printed an F-50 logo for the back as well as ABS plugs to go in those holes in front of the rear tires that go straight into the rocker panels! Not today Ford! Pics below.

I visited a place called Extreme Truck today. Actually my Ford salesman referred me. I am considering a Rough Country Hard tri fold flip or Real Truck BAKFlip MX4. I was told that a better option was Read Truck Undercover Ultra Flex. Better quality worth the expense. Mostly due to seals to keep water out. I have not bought it, but passing on to look into. I am in Florida so I don't have the ice issue, but I hear it's going to be in the 20's tonight here. Brrrr!
