AVS Bugflector II Installation Problem. Am I missing something here?

Me again . after looking at your photos again I think you might have mounted the grommets wrong. The whole grommet ( both pieces )has to be pushed through the deflector hole and Hood hole and then screw Phillips head part down to spread the wings out to hold in place .

Man do I feel dumb, I think you are correct. I'll check it out tonight when I get home.

Mine didn't align on one of the holes, it was one of the two middle positions so I just didn't connect it. Seems solid anyway, but kind of sucks it wasn't a perfect fit.

It does seem to overhang about an inch on each side but that seems normal.

Yea . I had to drill out both center flanges to make mine fit . used a portable drill with small bit first then enlarged and reamed with larger bit . others have had to do some modifications as well . some seem to fit without mods . it seems it is the only bugflector that doesn't use tape .

Had a similar problem with my AVS Bug Shield I installed today. The attaching pins were too short and the diameter was too small. They wouldnt go through the Shield and into the Hood. Trashed them and used 4 Push Pins I had left from another project, button head about 1/2" head diameter and longer and thicker than the junk that came with the kit. They worked perfectly.

Can you show us a picture of it installed from the side of the truck, and another showing a mounting point with the hood opened?

I like that it overlaps over the tops of the Fenders a little on each side.
The Bug Shield attaches to the underside of the Hood with 4 new Pins that are installed in pre-drilled slots in the underside of the Hood that are used to secure the center portions of the under hood weatherstrip. Just remove the Weatherstrip Pins (easy) and install the Bug Shield with 4 new Pins then push the weatherstrip back over the tabs of the Bug Shield.
In my first pic, I'm showing you 1 of the 4 locations for the new Pins that attach the Bug Shield to the underside of the Hood.

OCasey, put it on first, you might be surprised and maybe you won't have to drill any holes. The Pins you take out of the Weatherstrip aren't actually pushed into holes, they are pushed into Slots. AND the Bug Shield did not easily line up with the Slots.
I had to physically do some pushing in on the Bug Shield to get it to where it would come close to lining up with the Slots on the Hood and I could push my Push Pins through the Bug Shield and into the slot.. Once I had all 4 Push Pins installed I had about 1/2" of adjustment that I could slide the Bug Shield either Left or Right to make it line up perfectly on the Hood and over the Fenders.
One other thing too, the Installation Kit comes with 4 Clear Rubber Bump Stops that are used to prevent any flexing of the Bug Shield actually onto the Hood to prevent paint damage to the hood.
The Instructions say to stick the Bump Stops onto the Hood. I chose to stick them onto the underside of the Bug Shield as I wanted to be sure that if I ever had to remove them, I wouldn't have to pry them off the painted Hood..

My middle 2 holes didn't line up either. I didn't want to push on the deflector too much and tear up the paint on the hood. I mean they weren't even close to lining up. I attached the 2 outer fasteners no problem and once the hood is closed it is on there pretty securely.

I guess we will see how it holds up. I hate when companies have bad quality control

I hate when companies fail to market their product well. I like the way the product sits on vehicles, but when I look at the front-on only marketing pics its very hard to get a sense of the product. Side on shots do so much better.

I know its sort of a subjective thing, but do you all think that this reduces the number of bugs on the windshield?

After fighting with the included fasteners for like 20 min I threw them in the trash. They only have like one thread on them. I had one that worked perfect in my extra bin so I took it to autozone and found some that were similar and used those. Worked great.

I did have to drill a new hole in mine though too. Three slots lined up perfect. Last one wasn’t even close.

I tried installing mine yesterday and had the exact opposite problem. One slot lined up and the other three weren't even close

I installed my AVS hood/bug deflector last night, I had a similar problem where I could only get 3 of the 4 holes to line up properly. I gave up on the 4th one even after drilling into the plastic a bit to try to get it to work. I gave up on the 4th one as I was worried about messing up the hood. The two end ones and the left middle one lined up. The right middle one was off by quite a bit. It seems to hold up okay but I may just add some 3M double sided tape to the last tab under the hood.

I liked the suggestion of putting the little bumpers on the shield itself. I would I would have thought of that.
