Hello all!

Wanted to give an honest review of the AVS Bugflector II I just installed on my Mav. I’ve seen some reviews both here and on YT and figured I’d chime in also. First, the install was a breeze, maybe 5 minutes. That said, there were no instructions installed and the QR code was useless. But I’m not totally inept and somewhat mechanically inclined. I would recommend holding the bug flector in place before removing any of the seal clips. I had a slight panic attack when I just dove in thinking I removed one incorrectly. Turns out I didn’t but after a mock up, the other 3 were easily identified. You can expect to destroy the OE clips when removing them. I assume replacements are available should I remove the shield layer down the road. Now I have noticed there seems to be a first generation and appears a second of the shields. I say that because some videos show the end cuts being slotted. All 4 of mine were circular. They all lined up perfectly to the hood. All 3 went in relatively easily with a Phillips head. The fourth took some coaxing but it went in once it caught traction. I’ve seen some that took double sided tape to secure the seal once they installed. I’m going to hold off on that for now as I don’t believe it is needed because the stripping doesn’t dangle down. I installed the bump stops on the shield because I don’t care to put tape onto my paint. Use your best judgement but mine were on the ends and then lined up to the hood lines. No issues with rubbing anywhere. Hood opened and closed as normal. No Dremel necessary. Hopefully it will keep some of the bugs off the glass as they have in my past vehicles.

I went with the Bugflector II as well, because (a) it covers more of the front area compared with all the others only covering the leading edge of the hood, (b) its easily removed should it get destroyed by a big rock, and (c) I refuse to do stupid things like putting double-sided tape on my paint. I agree that the instructions are absolutely useless, but thankfully the install is pretty easy and obvious. Its been on for about 6 months now, and I'm still very happy with it.

Has anyone ever had any issues with them getting damaged when going though a car wash, with the love bugs here in Florida I run my Maverick though twice a week but would like to install one on mine to help keep them off the paint and windshield.

Mine has been through the wash about 6 times now, with no damage. I always remove my antenna in case it snags on the spinning mops, but that's about it.

I have the AVS II as well and it's better than those 3m tape/glued on a hood deflectors.

I installed mine in Granger Ford's Parking lot on May 23 2024. Been through 20 or so car washes. No issues what so ever. I also stuck the clear "bumpers" to the bug shield. If they ever touch (have not yet) the bumpers will hit the PPF.

Yes, I too agree that the instructions are NON EXISTENT But I had it on in maybe 10 mins with no tools other than a pocket knife. Was able to save the lil blue pins from the rubber doing it that way. All round holes lined up perfectly. I had read of the issues prior and was ready with a cordless dremel. It was not needed. They fixed whatever issues they had with the previous versions.

Curious what makes you say it's better than the 3m attached ones?

I've had mine on 3 years with no issues. It actually deflects wind, therefore debris over the windshield.

I had one similar to yours on my Sport Trac for around 10 years. The paint was rough under there when I sold it. Not sure if it was due to vibrating against the hood at high speeds or water/debris sitting between it and the hood.

Because I can take it off if I wanted to without the issues of it being taped down on the hood in the heat. Just as you were stating about the screw on one in your sport trac, if you have ever tried to get a 3m/glued one off after awhile it can mess up the portions where the sticky is. 3 friends in our race group went through it and I learned my lesson, again, from them. 1 was a modified 2023 maverick with that on it. I had a red sport trac as well and ya gotta admit the paint on those years was awful after about 5 to 7 years. Mine had screw on as well back then and no issues with the paint under where it was so the sport trac had this great paint line of about an inch or so then it slowly faded and cracked up further on the hood. To each their own and own experiences I guess.

Yeah, most people leave them on for however long they have the vehicle. The guys in our racing club do modifications every day it seems like, lol.
