measuring the temp at the register is even more useless in a Maverick than it is in your home.

I describe how to use the automatic climate control here: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/center-dash-vents-annoying.35592/page-3#post-645503

It is pretty normal to have to adjust it based on clothing, outside temp, sunlight intensity, and recent physical activity. It is not normal to literally be unable to hit a desired set point if you have it in automatic mode and the vents are aimed properly.

If your system can't be set to a comfortable temp following the advice in my old post linked above, there could be a problem with one or more of the many sensors in the truck. It took me years to break my wife of the habit of manually setting fan speed and temp when she first started driving vehicles with automatic climate control, and she still dinks with the vent aiming more than I'd prefer, but at least we have an understanding that automatic mode stays on and just adjust the set point if needed. :D
I never had this issue in my wife’s gmc. I always set it to 68. Never had to adjust the temp. Car was always comfortable. My wife’s Tesla is even better at this. Sound like this is a ford thing then. Automatic to me means the car will keep the temp in the cabin close to that set temp. Not continuously blow out the same temp and continue to heat up / cool the cabin until it is adjusted by the user. That to me is not “automatic.”

To me the setting the speed of the fan and adjusting the temp continuously because I’m hot or cold again would be manual. Which sounds like it doesn’t matter if I’m in auto or manual mode. I have to do the same thing.

I am not sure if you read my linked post. Manual and auto mode most definitely do not function the same. In manual mode you're picking a temp that just tells the system to use AC or heat, and then you're setting the fan speed. If it's not in auto mode the temp you pick probably will never be actually reached and maintained unless it's dumb luck as you poke at the fan speed.

In auto mode the set point matters a lot more, the system will turn on the fan as necessary and using heat or AC, and turn off recirculation if humidity is high.

I see you're in Pennsylvania, which definitely has 4 seasons. If you literally did not adjust the temp from 68F year round in your GMC, that would surprise me. I would expect seasonal changes, and in every vehicle I've ever owned with automatic climate control I've definitely cranked the set point down if I've finished a MTB ride in the summer, I might set it to 62, and then back to normal (72-75) after I stop sweating. I have different preferences for summer when I wear minimal clothes and winter when I'm often in a jacket, wool socks, and boots. I might set my system to 74 most of the summer and 68 most of the winter. But I most definitely do not get in my truck and mess with the HVAC settings every time I drive.

If you're not experiencing that, and you really did read my linked post and have tried those suggestions, then have your dealer look at the truck. They can check if all the sensors are online and reading normally, and if the HVAC is engaging heat and cold as expected in automatic modes.

Yes I read your post about positioning the vents etc. yeah come to think of it. I believe I sent the ac to like 72 in the summer and 68 in the winter for heat. In her Tesla I set it to 70. Very comfortable. I don’t ever have to mess with the settings.
In my car regardless of auto mode or manual mode I have to adjust the temp after a while.

Anyway I’m not worrying about it. It’s not a dealbreaker. Just unfortunate it doesn’t work the way I think it should in auto mode.

Very true. I find I have to mess with and look at this truck's HVAC controls a lot more than I ever did in my previous vehicle that had manual controls. And that's true for both Auto and Manual modes - neither of which work like they should.

Oh good. I’m not the only one then experiencing this issue. My work around is to just not use the auto feature unfortunately. I just use the fan speeds and turn the temp down. Literally turning the heat down to 65 on fan 1 split between face and feet setting when driving for a while to not get too hot. If I use the auto feature it’s more like 80 degrees after a while and still pumping. In the summer months I have the AC set at 76 and it’s still freezing. I got nothing. Not going to bother with the dealer as you and I both know they will say, nothing wrong with it. It works. So I’m not going to waste my time. If you get it figured out though let me know
I tried something today. I set the temp to 68*F, it was 21*F outside. I was totally comfortable. So, maybe it's just off by a few degrees. I wonder if there is an "offset" that can be adjusted. My home thermostat has a feature where I can add or subtract a number of degrees either up or down to get it where I want it to be.

Hi all,

I have done a search to see if anyone else was having this issue but didn’t find much matching it. Here’s what I noticed:

When I have climate control “auto” on and set the temperature to say 71 degree's (during cold weather), the heat never seems to stop. I had a thermostat thing plugged into my cigarette outlet to see what it would read and it would 84 degrees apparently. Even if I turn the thermostat down to say 64 it doesn’t seem to stop the heat or reduce the heat from coming out the same. Basically it’s gotten to the point where I need to just turn it off and back on. Anyone else have a similar experience? I have a 23 lariat hybrid.

Thanks!
Doesn't sound like solution to your problem but have you checked if your reading Fahrenheit or Celsius? On your screen lower right corner touch settings then General then Temperature Units Then select which you want to use.

It just came to me = if you choose max heat or max cool the set temperature is ignored and the unit just pumps heat or cool out! Also if you choose the lowest or highest digital number on the dial that is also treated as if you pushed the max button.

It’s Fahrenheit and this is when I set it to a temperature. Like 68 degrees. Not max or for hot or cold. Never have to use either really.
