Some of the dislike, IMO, is simply because it's a government mandate. Yeah, the idea was to improve fuel efficiency and help the enviroment. OK, those are decent goals. But, couldn't you accomplish the same thing by limiting the vehicles top speed? Most interstate speed limits are 70. So why can certain vehicles go over 100?

your going down a very slippery slope, who gets to decide what I or you can have and when and how much will it cost? I certainly don't trust you.

I’ve never liked the feature on any car. I understand for environmental purposes but come on. Mining for the materials for these batteries are just as bad lol. I’m no mechanic but I believe A.S.S cases excessive wear on the battery(crank power to start it back up), starter (engaging more than usual), transmission/differentials (as another poster mentioned the abrupt grab and launch when taking off quickly from a light or traffic). Just don’t like the feature.

I use mine only when I am stopped at a long traffic light, so I am always turning it on and off. I wish it was defaulted to off and up to the driver when they want to use it. It's annoying when performing quick stops, such as, stopped at a stop sign or waiting to turn left.
In a hybrid, the car starts moving via an electric motor, so stopping the engine makes sense.

In a turbo powered ICE vehicle, not so much, and there is no benefit in stopping the engine when the vehicle only does that momentarily as you pointed out.
You can set ASS to default to off with Forscan, as some on this forum have done.

The constant stopping and starting poses enhanced turbo failure risk as the turbo needs oil flow for cooling and stopping a warmed engine frequently can cook the oil in the Maverick's turbo.
The typical recommendation is to let the engine idle for a short time before turning off the engine to let the turbo cool. Stop start eliminates that.

I have a Subaru without stop/start, or a turbo, but shutting down the engine waiting for a train doesn't require more than turning the key.
Most of my stops are sub-milliseconds long, where stop / start would be without any positive benefit.

And losing steering at that moment.

I have to believe that I am not the only one happy to see this ridiculous "feature" repealed going forward.

Auto stop/start was NEVER a government mandate in the US, that's just been a certain type of media talking point. The government mandated a minimum fleet gas mileage standard and many car company's made the choice to use start/stop as a means to get there. In my opinion, most every car should have been hybrids at least ten years ago, and if they had, we would have been way ahead of where we are now and start/stop on a standard ICE engine would have never been needed in the first place to achieve that standard.
First of all let me go on record here as saying I have absolutely NOTHING against hybrid vehicles per se. God bless everyone here that has one. These Mav hybrids are an incredible vehicle and value.

For me, they not not a viable alternative. I simply do not drive enough and will not live long enough to pay off the premium cost in gas savings. Simple as that.

With all due respect you should have no more right to tell me I have to have a hybrid as I do to tell you, you cannot have one.:handshake:

And I don't. This thread is about the standard ICE start/stop feature. If you own a hybrid, you don't have to contend with that at all... I should note that if you don't drive many miles a year, and can't in your mind justify a hybrid, it would seem that at some point in the future, someone else will be driving your present car and they will probably drive many more miles a year, and also spend a lot more on fuel than if the vehicle was a hybrid.

I don't hate the feature, but I feel entire premise of it saving fuel just doesn't really work unless you're sitting in traffic with long waits which for me is rarely the case. I'm usually going again within 30 seconds to a minute after stopping. What I don't agree with is the way it's implemented with the system re-enabling itself after restarting the engine. I hope Ford releases a software update that allows the system to remember it's setting since it's no longer going to be a mandated feature.

There's the confusion - it never was mandated.
Earlier posts got into that.

It was a method to get better CAFE numbers - as such an update isn't going to change what's out now. And why it defaults back to it - numbers were obtained on test runs with it enabled.

I'm just glad for those enjoying the turbo they didn't attempt to get better numbers by moving the line where boost kicks in.
Actually - maybe it already is - and boost could have been brought on earlier!
