That and cost now. They are having trouble selling the new Tacoma's for good reasons. Nobody wants to pay that much.
Plus some folks are super not into them ditching the V/6 -

Another reason I skipped the Colorados/Canyons. Figured if I was going to get a 4 cylinder turbo, it might as well be good on MPG's. Not that they are "bad", but compared to a lighter much more efficient Maverick, yea, they kinda are unless you get the real base end models. And then it's basically a Maverick Tremor in the MPG category. Just all over the place trying to cut costs and meet these CAFE/EPA standards.

Another huge variable is how well you take care of the vehicle. All the people going by the oil life indicator that don't live in California-like weather? Yeah those Mavericks aren't gonna make it. Guys that change at 5k mi ECO and 7.5k mi hybrid? We have a chance
I change my mavericks oil at 5k, our explorers about every 2k. I just like to baby things 😂. Will our maverick go to hell? I don't know, time will tell. Aside from some interior rattles, it's been solid thus far. I've just tried to get out of my own head lately. I'd admittedly very, very bad at this. It's kind of hard to describe, but my brain runs through worst case scenarios 24/7. I've just tried to adopt an if it happens, it happens, mentality, and not drive myself crazy in the meantime.

I wouldn't say the maverick is a lemon, I'd say it's like every other affordable car. Your civics, Corollas, souls, that sort of thing. What I've generally experienced is cars like this tend to have rock solid essentials, like the motor and transmission. But other aspects of the car may need to be replaced more.

Case in point, my friends 2014 civic, it has 80k miles on it. It's running, not well, but it's running. The bumpers are falling off, the body is coated in rust and sun faded paint, the skid plates drag and scape on the ground when he drives, the transmission shakes violently when it shifts, the engine squeaks and squeals. It's falling apart, but it's running.

That's usually what happens with more affordable cars. Our Toyota Tercel 's engine lasted 130k, our most reliable Toyota, but the trim and seats were falling apart, the few electronics it did have were glitchy. CV axles are about $110 per wheel someone said, and will probably get cheaper over time. It's not fun, but if that's really one of the only parts that needs to be repaired every few years, then the reliability of the maverick is gonna come out ahead of 90% of affordable cars.

The Maverick is well built out of substandard parts. Whether that is due to poor design or excessive cost cutting, the result is a recall prone machine that will probably wear out too soon. Too bad.
What are the substandard parts?

It seems like most of the recalls are software related. Perhaps the software is substandard?

Well, it's a Ford, it's made in Mexico, it's cheap. Strike one, strike two, strike three.
I bought mine because it was new, different, fun. When, not if, it turns into a turd, I will flush it and get another Toyota.
The Hermosillo plant won highest quality (out of all Ford plants) just before Maverick production started.

Hey guys, I’m about 5k miles on my late 2023 fx4 xlt eco boost, and here was my gamble in my mind when i purchased my first Ford.
1. The gas powered version mechanically can’t possibly be much different than the escape or anything else they manufacture.
2. If Ford wants to maintain its brand integrity, they are going to nail the trucks in their fleet. The F150 is the flagship but the pride and reputation of their “pickup trucks” is on the line with the Maverick and ranger etc regardless of the unibody etc.
So I wouldn’t be surprised if the hybrid version has more curve balls, but those buyers are getting insane gas mileage to deal with the humps.
So far only 2 software update recalls on mine, fingers crossed…love the design so much, hope this is a loving and lasting relationship! Cheers!

I have had 3 Ford Focus sedans and 2 Ford ZX2s. All going over 200,000 miles. They were all made in Mexico. They have been rock solid except for plastic thermostat housing. Made in Mexico is not a strike in most cases........IMO.
I'm fairly certain that those focuses were made in the same factory the maverick is made in. That factory has a stellar reputation for quality last I checked. They haven't produced a dud yet.

Seems to have been an award winning "lemon" several years running, I might add. There is a current thread about the Motortrend article.

Yea the Tacoma didn't break on TFL's first run on a mild dirt trail.
