Another possibility is that your phone -is- charging but it's charge rate is so low it's breaking even with the power needed to run Androidauto / carplay. I know if I have my phone on the wireless pad it doesn't actually charge upward but instead breaks even with the power drain of maps etc.

Plus since the ports are 5v 3a, some phones (like iphones) can't accept 3amps at 5v and instead can only handle 2.4amps, so you end up with 12w charging instead of 15w. If you want to actually charge your phone fast in a mav you have to buy a proper 12v charger still.

Take the tray out of the phone charge area and maybe also take in protective case off your phone to get your phone closer to the charging coil. Also consider getting a 8-12" charge corg and plug your phone in (phone will also run cooler plugged in).

The wireless charger in the Maverick got some pretty poor reviews, hit or miss on working well.

Search the forums and you will find that many have found a way to add third-party solutions.

My Samsung will charge off the USB A port fine. Also my understanding the newer iPhone's will no longer charge off a USB A port anymore and has to be a USB C.

Nothing has really changed when it comes to the non-phone side of the cables, as far as capability. You can charge an iPhone from either style of USB plug. The major change to iPhones the last few years was that the phone itself is now USB-C (yeah, I know... took them a while). But if you had a USB-A to USB-C cable and plugged the USB-A side into the truck, a new iPhone would charge just fine.

All that said, I have gotten in the habit of looking for USB-C, regardless of what I am charging, because that often delivers more juice. I am now to the point where there are more USB-C charging locations in the house than anything else.

I have had no issues running CarPlay with active navigation, SXM streaming, and texting on long trips plugged into the Maverick. Even the first-gen Mavs deliver more power than my phone can use.

Also note that on 2025 and above, the rear USB-C ports support proper USB-C PD, and can charge at least 60W.

(It’s enough to fast charge my MacBook Pro)

On my 2025, the front USB-C port also does PD and supports up to 25W.
