Stock FX4 pirelli scorpion ATR’s in 225/65/17 show 729 revs per mile, which is 2,207 mm
Thanks for the clarification. Very interesting when you look at the revs per mile it is way different than the tire calculators. Even though the sizes/dimensions are listed as the same, in this case 28.5 diameter, the calculators show 709 revs per mile where the tire info sheets show 729. No wonder I could never math it correctly. Thanks again for the explanation.

You can go up to 245/65R17 with no rubbing issues reported, it's a very popular tire size in the Forum

28.5 inches x pi x 25.4 mm per inch = 2274 mm circumference = 707.6 revolutions per mile.

That is true for a steel drum.

But not for a car tire with 32 psi of air, carrying a 1,000 lb load.

That is where manufacturer spec sheets come in to play. Tire Rack compiles all of them in one convenient web site. 😂

That's exactly were I went after I read your post. You can find the revs per mile for 90% of the tires there. Way different than just mathin' the diameter, which is what the calculators do.

Funny you would ask the question I logged to ask.
I'm approaching tire replacements and am leaning towards the 235's to get a higher load rating.
It's currently a toss up between the Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT's and the Falken Wildpeak AT4W's.
Do I need the extra capacity for load? Not really. I have an issue with tires that will just handle Max capacity and the extra room won't hurt. The sidewalls are heavier on 235's so I expect a slightly stiffer ride.
Anyone gone to 235's and willing to share your thoughts??
When I switch I'll be looking for a 'less' stiffer ride. The roads here in Illinois are getting crappy.

I went 235/70-17 in that exact tire and have been very happy with it.

Road noise is increased a little bit, but certainly far from unbearable. I was expecting to have a little more road noise. Impact on MPG has been small, ~2 MPG. Have driven in sand, mud, rain, and snow; these tires haven't missed a beat.

Looks good!

Added weight taxes mpg.

Type of tire can add more weight than another.
Even one A/T vs. Another.
