It must be a Lariat specific thing because I just went out in the garage and looked and my XLT doesn't have it. As for what it's actually for I'm not sure.
Mr too - not there on my XLT. No trace of the smoking weed.

someone try putting a tooth inside there and see if you find a quarter in there later.

My dad told me something while young. That right there is something to make you ask questions. And it is fully functional as we can see. 😂😂😂😂😂

With the seat upright that pad looks to cover the cab vent. Probably used to deaden sound to quiet the cab.
My thoughts exactly. But it doesn’t work. Sound reading on the metal did.

Since it is on the Lariat with the B&O, I can't help but think it is acoustical. Maybe a dampener to keep the seat from rattling from the brutal punishment of that pounding 6x9 sub?
Nothing to do with B&O. I don’t have it but do have the padding.

obviously its to cushion and maintain the temperature of the bottle of Patron Tequila Extra that comes with every Lariat. If the bottle is missing, question your dealer!

Now, that would be a winner @boe757 but question your dealer? I'd be questioning my cousins and uncles making these things in Hermosillo, MX. "Tio, why is my bottle of Patron missing? Mijo, you have an XLT, it's only for the pretty people who get Lariats".

Been down that road, pretty sure it's exclusive to Lariat models, it exists on Lariats without the B&O.

I remember reading somewhere the lariat has extra sound deadening and I think it's probably safe to assume that is actually nothing more that a muffle for that vent it sits in front of.... or you know.... a place to hide your weed, which would probably work just as good to muffle extra noise.

Maybe when the seat folds up, it applies pressure to the wires or something that may otherwise rattle but can’t be anchored down for whatever reason?

Maybe it is a muffled vent since Lariet's seat material is more air tight (unlike the fabric in the XL and XLT models. When you plop your butt down on the seat and lean back the air must go somewhere. Maybe out this vent. Have you found a similar vent under the lower portion of the seat or maybe there are holes already there and no similar vent needed.

Exactly. By it's composition and positioning, it appears Ford is deploying a classic HEVI acoustic dampener to implement a horizontally explicit vertically implicit (HEVI) and split-explicit time integration scheme.

With this approach, a divergence damping term is added as a final adjustment to the horizontal velocity at the new time level after completing the vertically implicit portion of the time step. In this manner, the divergence used in the filter term has exactly the same numerical form as that used in the discrete pressure equation. Analysis of the dispersion equation for this form of the filter documents its stability characteristics and confirms that it effectively damps acoustic modes with little artificial influence on the amplitude or propagation of the gravity wave modes that are of physical interest. Some specific aspects of the implementation of the filter in the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) are discussed, and results are presented to illustrate some of the beneficial aspects of suppressing acoustic noise.
I understand you were likely trying to be brief to break-down the basics in layman's terms, but would like to supplement only that its key that the HEVI dampener is contained in the malleable logarithmic casing, or pouch, as without parametric containment, the dingle arm actually amplifies acoustic side-fumbling.

I would bet money this spot is designed to hold the optional Ford roadside assistance kit originally intended to be standard equipment on the Lariat. “Part No: VFL3Z19F515AB”
