Anyone installed a cat shield for their Mav?

I had a cat shield on an old hybrid of mine. They were getting stolen frequently in my neighborhood. Anyone here had their catalytic converter stolen or installed a shield?

In general, they don't really work.

Damaging the cat and your truck to get it off is of no consequence. The stolen parts are stolen to melt down, not for resale. They don't care what you mark it with or how many pieces it is in when it comes off.

Anything you can install slows them down by 60 seconds.

I've noticed a huge drop in the reports of catcons being stolen in my area (San Francisco East Bay). Up until last Fall, there would be at least a couple posts every day on the Next Door app page, and now I haven't seen one for weeks.
I don't know if it's because everyone has installed theft deterrents, or if the market for stolen catcons has gone away (they did bust a few large scale theft rings or fences that had hundreds of catcons in storage units or their garage)(and required scrap metal places to collect info such as photo ID/car serial #/etc when someone was selling).

My cat is too fat to require a shield, and the dog too old.

The cats are wedged right up against the engine, too.

That will stop them from getting at the expensive rare-earth metals.

However; that won't stop some idiot from cutting the not rare-earth metals from the underside of your truck, from lack of knowledge.

Hopefully word gets out on the streets the Maverick is not a good score.

The converters are way up as close to the engine as practical, and are almost impossible to get to without pulling the engine. Good luck to the moron crawling under a Mav in the middle of the night.

The good news: while it is a "downstream" catalytic converter, it has no sensors or electronics. You can replace it with a "generic" one for $125.

The bad news: called a "46 state" compliant converter, you cannot ship a "generic" one to CA, CO, NY, or ME.
