I live in New York State and although I only have about 20,000 miles, I’m not really seeing any rust underneath but I think I’m gonna climb under there with a wire brush. See if I can find anything worth scraping away at does anyone have any rust yet with these trucks and what are you guys using to spray underneath?

Rust came quick on exposed edges where holes were punched in the underbody structure but hasn't spread to anything concerning yet. I have doused the entire underside of my truck with Rust Cure Formula 3000 and I touch it up pretty much anytime I'm doing work on the truck. Every seam, inside doors and rockers and every access hole to inner structure etc. This has helped keep my previous couple of cars in good shape in some awful winter conditions with tons of salt, I'm hopeful it'll help keep the Maverick reasonably good as well.

I use these guys to undercoat the truck.. They are very reasonable. https://krown.com/en
Fully agree. I've been using Krown on all our vehicles for at least the last 15 or 20 years and it really does prevent rust if applied every year. Where the Maverick is pretty thin metal all around, I've been Krown spraying both our Mavericks.

When doing my first oil change, I saw that the control arms on my NEW vehicle were completely covered with surface rust.
This was the case when I bought my NEW Transit (not Connect) as well. Because of the proximity to the disc brakes, I did not spray Corrosion Stop on them, but will address this at some point.

Yup. Our maverick is almost 3 years old. Michigan truck. There is some under carriage rust.

I also noticed that the exhaust system rusted very quickly. I painted Rust-mort on the rust and then painted it with high temp paint. It was quick and easy. My greatest fear is those Rocker Panels and the openings to them.

Are you not undercoating? Why not?

I assume the unprotected mavs will definitely have rust problems in about 5-8 years in the northern states and Canada after a video I saw of the underbody.

Not needed in my opinion. I bought a 2010 ram new.its been a northern michigan truck it's entire life and the body and undercarriage are fine. 16 years old, hoping to get 20 years out of it.how much longer do you need to keep your vehicle? Curious how our maverick will look after 20 years.

Alternative to "undercoating" that seems to actually work on already rust-exposed surfaces is POR-15. You still want to clean as much loose rust off as possible, though.
Surface rust can be abated for a while with some brand of "rust converter". I forget which one I used on my '63 Corvair but it kept the axles etc. clear of rust for about a year or more between applications. I would not recommend relying on this for body panels, just on heavy duty parts with surface rust.

Are you talking about the front knuckles? Ford doesn't coat these from the factory, because they are cast iron and are lifetime parts even without being coated.

The control arms (A-arms) are made of a non-ferrous aluminum alloy that doesn't rust.

YES! I flippantly threw out words.
I'm not concerned about those ever "rusting through", but I am concerned about growing a rust farm that could find it's way to other more vulnerable parts.
