Quite frankly I am tired of blaming the pandemic and supply chain issue for anything and everything. i feel it is time to look for the real issues in life. This is low cost truck is designed to look good and get consumers to move toward electric vehicles. I feel the auto industry is being funded in some way to produce hybrids and electric cars to move consumers in this direction. However we are putting the cart in front of the horse. The infrastructure to support electric cars is not in place, the cost of battery production is harder on the eco system than fossil fuel usage. Last night the news showed a wind farm with oil leaking to the ground. In the 70’s this type of oil was spread on gravel roads in a Missouri town of Times Beach. This town no longer exist because of the toxins in the used oil. So we purchased a low cost low quality truck to introduce the public to a low cot hybrid truck. The only problem I see is the 2.0 eco boost may be easier to build. I would like to see the production records for 2022 vrs the ordered. Which is being delivered. For any Veteran they experienced brain washing in the first 8 weeks to become a trained killer. I feel we are being conditioned to purchase a electric car which the US infrastructure is not ready for. I purchased the eco boost because I remember the gas shortage when Diesel and propane cars and conversion became the rage and low and behold that fad ended and gas power came back. I hear you can get a battery car with a 300 mile range. If on a road trip that is a short day. When I was working I could exceed over 200 miles in a day with commute and grandchildren shuttle.

Since day one of ownership my main concern has been the barely adequate front suspension. It is what it is. The dampers are uber cheap with no damping to speak of, especially when you hit a up bump and the front end slams down with a harsh sound, that shakes the whole vehicle.

Next real bone of contention is the infotainment system. It takes at least 10 to 15 minutes before Android Auto wants to work without issues. The sound quality is good but you can't count on it working when you need it. Also gets confused if within range of more than one wifi at a time.

The grabby brakes below 5 mph make delicate movements in tight spaces downright risky. Like making small adjustments in the garage. Also about half the time when you use the auto hold function it is not eager to let go.

Some good news thought that relates to the topic. Recently drove through a torrential hour+ long downpour at highway speed. Fully expecting to find water leakage somewhere, I failed in that mission. I was impressed in the water tightness. Even the Ford hard tri-fold tonneau cover did an excellent job. The traction control worked well as the Continental tires were hydroplaning, Intervening just enough to move safely forward.

Still feel the XLT seats are a somewhat mushy but comfortable. My longest trip without getting out of the truck is about 230 miles. We both got out without soreness or experiencing pressure points.

Like at least one other person, I too may be moving on, if the right vehicle can be found. Personally I don't see myself in the Maverick for more than 4 years.

No problems will build quality except rattles in the instrument panel. More than one. Dealer fixed one, I found the rest and stopped them with O rings pushed between plastic panels. Mostly around the radio display
mine is making noises as well in the dash. So they pulled it all apart at the dealer and put orings on plastic pieces? That solved it?

Unimpressed, no. Expect s it, yep. Mine has two painted overruns and the notorious nonexistent paint layer where looking at it just scratches it off. Everything else is fine. I expected poor quality workmanship, it’s a cheaper vehicle and it’s made in Mexico.

Kept my old Toyota Yaris so the maverick would last longer. I only drive the maverick average two days a week.

I think the body panels are really thin. They are thinner than our Edge for sure.

Also, debris from the driver's side rear tire getting thrown into the body panel and taillight is not impressive at all. Just how long has Ford been making vehicles anyway?

There's a really bad turbulence noise when I lower the only the rear windows at highway speed. It's alarmingly bad.
I think all 4 door vehicles do that crack a front window and it will stop, it is uneven airflow

Some of the pictures in the OP are curious but typical at this price point. My Ranger has all the same symptoms and proper rust proofing has kept it rust free for 18 years in a state that averages 35-40 tons of road salt per season per mile. My wide open rocker panels get hosed out in the spring and resprayed wth bar & chain oil.

mine seems to be ok, 1 puddling of paint on the fender well in the bed, kept my Chrysler 200 as a daily driver as well

Yes its a 20-30k truck so i shouldn't expect luxury. these are some of the build quality issues ive come across not even gotten through my first tank of gas.

1. There is no insulation between the engine and the cab. When i open my drivers door i can see inside my engine bay. Ill elaborate more on this later on.

IMG_20221125_232306107.jpg

2. The fender liners dont align, mate, and cover the wheel well. tons of dirt, salt, etc gets up inside the engine bay from here and accelerates corrosion in hard to reach spaces, especially the pinch welds. Dirt and grime also easily migrates to the door seals, door wiring boot and can seep its way inside the frame.

IMG_20221125_231729004 - Copy.jpg

3. The rear wheel well fender liner and splash guard doesnt cover or protect the rocker panel and the wheel constantly shoves water and dirt into it accelerating corrosion. i dont think there is a product that could even help this as theres just to much water flow.

IMG_20221125_231113925.jpg

4. this one is a little more specific to me, The steering wheel upholstery is torn and not fitted well, you can easily see inside the steering column into the engine bay.

besides the torn upholstery are these same issues on everyone else mavericks? or worth raising a warranty claim?. Anyone else have things they've noticed?
man your too picky lol . i really havent seen any problem build wise on mine i bought mine on march and already have 8k milles on it. one thing im finding out its this truck loves to pick leaves and rocks from the front and into the lower shield. but i love this truck even though its a ford.

I put the o rings in. Size of o ring depended on where the rattle was. Most were stopped by putting o rings behind all 4 corners of the video display. Just cut a section and use a trim tool and push them in. The others were where the top panel of the instrument cluster meets the dashboard. Small diameter o rings there.

thank you, I’ll try that! I got a custom stereo put in it so after that it got worse than it was obviously because we had to take stuff apart 🤦🏻🤪. Figured it might happen, but now it’s like flip a coin where the noise is coming from. Put sound deadening material in all four doors, under the back seat and behind the back seat. Replaced all of the speakers, made a custom sub and mounted the amp.

I believe that that wind buffeting experience is called "cavitation". All modern vehicles that undergo wind tunnel testing for max airflow over vehicle to reduce drag that hurts MPG are tested with all windows in up position. They don't expect you to drive with windows opened these days with AC Climate control standard in virtually every new vehicle.
To my knowledge its just called buffeting. For cavitation you need a liquid. Pressure differences create cavities of air in a liquid meduim. I learned this from watching Hunt for the Red October. Cavitation is a easily detectable sound signature underwater from a vessels prop blades. The Red October had a caterpillar drive that sounded quieter and registered more as a seismic anomaly.

Buffeting, aside from a dance I learned at Margaritaville, is a irregular occilation of on object striking another object. In this case both objects are wind. Turbulent and slower air swirling inside the cab being fed from the front windows creating pressure hits against the pressure of the air stream outside the cab. These principals are also apparent in the "aboriginal telephone call" Mick makes in Crocodile Dundee 2.

Most vehicles with 4 doors can and will do this if you have the windows down in the right configuration. 2drs also do it however the frequency is higher and less irritating.

As for the OPs concern of all this build quality stuff. There are about 5 pristine Yugos out there in the world. This is because even though they were a cheap ass crappy car 5 people took care of em. If yours gets dirty in places it shouldnt, clean em. If someone expects Mercedes quality out of the cheapest Ford economy vehicle you can buy(that also happens to be capable of alot of cool things)then just spend the difference between what you paid and a Mercedes at a local mechanic and detail shop, I'm sure they will take your money.

I personally dont like any of the felt materials I see on the Maverick. As time goes on I will be replacing them all with whatever I deem a better material. The wheel wells felts will eventually be replaced with plastic or alloy shields and bedliner paint. The under body felts on my Tremor will likely get replaced with a mix aluminum plate and cutting board material and possibly more bedliner paint.

This is all 5, 10, or 15 years down the road when these "issues" stat making "problems" on my mid trimmed, top offroad spec'd, class leading mpg, $31,000 big ole lil American truck.

Really?

So when a customer sees that Civic and a Maverick for a similar price, gaining truck functionalities like 2000 lb towing, an open bed, etc, at 40 mpg city, that’s not going to convince people they’re truck people now?

Nearly worked on me coming from a Focus until I found I could get an overall better equipped Escape Hybrid AWD for a bit less money, with less of a wait. Still have other use cases that would be well served by a Maverick.

Never had anything bigger than a Taurus previously, and wasn’t looking at pickups until Maverick was unveiled.

As you note, once people start using the “starter pickup”, some will inevitably look to upgrade to a Ranger or F-150.
I never thought of a “starter pickup”. I just buy what I need. Don’t need some massive over weight unable to fit in the garage monster. That is why I bought Datsun/Nissan pickups back in the early 80’s. Never thought of any of them as starters.

You don’t have to.

Would you rather use the term “gateway drug”? Then feel free. No need to nitpick word choice trying to use less strong language.

The obvious point being that once you start using it, many buyers are likely to want more. See Ranger, F-150.

Once you start using a pickup, if you find yourself limited in capacity, just like with a starter house, you may want something bigger. Not you personally, any buyer.

They’d like to sell you a Maverick today and a more profitable truck tomorrow. Doesn’t mean it’ll work for you personally.

Those paint issues would hopefully be able to be covered under warranty if you were to raise them with Ford?
