Curious if anyone else ordered the 2.0/AWD that has their fingers crossed for decent power. Hoping that this thing won’t be a dog. The 2.0 turbo and AWD combo could be a decent road performer. But the Maverick is pretty long and might be a little underpowered for the curb weight. I’m sure a tune would wake it up a little. But the small engine and even smaller turbo have their limitations

This is easy. 250 herspers. A 1998 Ford F150 with a 5.4 only had 220. The chevy with the 5.7 350 had exactly 250. Power is not an issue with this truck.

Depends on what you’re comparing it to.
True. Coming from a 3.0t Infiniti. Won’t really compare it to that. But that’s what I’m in right now.

Yeah, I know the old stuff is slow by comparison. But it’s still slow by today’s standards.

Are you joking? 250hp on a 3700lb car will be plenty quick and is a great power to weight ratio for a vehicle of this size - especially for a little 2 liter 4 banger.

These trucks are not speed demons. But for a good comparison, our escape with the 1.5 eb was by no means a slouch and had less power.

Sorry to those who have read this before.
my wife has a 2017 Buick Envision premium 2 AWD with a 2.0T 250hp
and it’s a rocket, very fast....and it weights as much as the Maverick
dont worry

I am cautiously optimistic but I feel like I will be a bit underwhelmed. In the past year, I have owned:
  • 2021 Honda Civic Type R
  • 2015 Toyota Prius IV
  • 2005 Honda CR-V
  • 2009 Honda Fit (still own and my daily)
  • 2019 Honda Odyssey (still own and my wife's vehicle)
Performance wise, the Type R was perfect for me. The issue I had was the Type R was too perfect for me out of the gate. I felt like I didn't need to do anything to it. The acceleration, braking, and handling were incredible.

With that said, the Type R is going to be my completely unfair benchmark for the Maverick when I start modifying it. If its like the Bronco Sport, a tune should really help open it up and push both the HP and TQ past the 300's (crank). Given the vehicle's weight, if it can hit ~350tq at the crank after a tune, I feel like that will be adequate for the vehicle's size. Then again, I'm not into straight line speed so throwing it around corners is where I tend to get most of the joy. The torque numbers will be the X factor IMO. With some suspension work, Michelin Pilot Sports, and a big brake kit solution, it will be close enough for me.

While I feel like a tune would solve most of my issues in the power department, I am more concerned about rear lift and ways to minimize it 😨 . Hopefully someone or I can find a clean solution to reduce lift without increasing drag.

It has a better power to weight than the ranger which is nice. Im not too worried as the 2.0t has been around for ages and people (focus ST community specifically) have modded these to death. So we have such a good documentation of what goes wrong, what it can handle, etc. For people who arent modifying, we can hope for a ford performance tune. But even then, as others said, the power to weight is more than enough in my opinion.

Past cars are:
2021 WRX STI
2010 ISF
NB and NA miatas
2019 BRZ

But then I got the Model Y and it ruined all ICE for me. The instant torque is incredible

Already been answered but I'll echo the others. It all really depends on what you're comparing it to and how reasonable your expectations are. But I don't think anyone will call it a dog. My 21 Ranger is plenty quick for a truck. I've never once wished it had more power. And the Mav Eco AWD has a better power to weight ratio than the Ranger. My 4K tow Mav will also have a lower final drive ratio than the Ranger. I'm looking forward to driving this little beast.

I won't be messing with mine (getting old...like the warranty) but if you're willing to tune it, I bet it can be made pretty quick pretty easily.

And I also think that the type of vehicle determines the speed expectations too. If this was marketed as a mini truck style that handles well and can go around a track, then sure they shouldve slapped the 2.3t in there. But I dont think any marketing or engineering choices went around speed/handling. So for what it is I am glad they even chose to use the 2.0t

Thats not to say the aftermarket wont try to make a mini truck style that is lowered and faster (think Maverick ST). Just that the perceived expectations change based on the style of vehicle.

Same boat here. The corners is where it’s at. Suspension, brakes, wheel/tires should be chosen accordingly. As far as the lift issue, I’d like to see someone pull off a functional spoiler designed into a smooth tonneau cover. It may be close to 40k by the time I’m done, but an ST Maverick would be a good goal.

Just get a 7.4l and mount it sideways with a transaxle, then you will have plenty of power, probably couldn’t see over the hood, but pose to spare ;)

Depends on expectation. I'm looking at it like it's a car. If will have enough power to get me around town, and get home most things I buy randomly. I don't expect it to go faster then the speed limit nor do I expect it to haul stuff.
