I’m toying with the idea of purchasing a 5 x 12 aluminum crossover trailer and converting it into a camper. It is a bit taller than my Maverick (WHICH I ORDERED YESTERDAY BECAUSE THE FOURTH WAS WITH ME!!! - ahem, I guess I needed to shout about it!). I know wind resistance oft plays a bigger role than weight in lost fuel economy when towing, but this little trailer seems like it may have minimal impact. What do you think?

(Sorry, tried to post the pic, but only know how to post the site)

The things I tow with either my ram, or maverick will cut my mileage in half. Our boat is about 3000 lbs. I get lows 30,s hwy not towing, 15-16 towing. When towing with the ram i get about 20 not towing, about 10 mpg towing. This trailer looks way less that 3000 lbs ...unloaded.
.so depending on the overall weight your mileage will vary.

You order yours with the tow package? If so you will have no problem.

If you tow anything 2,000lbs or less, you don't need electric brakes on the trailer. Above 2,000lbs you should have a 7-pin connector and a Brake Controller. A Brake Controller comes as part of the 4K towing package.

Otherwise, you must use the following formula

Fd=(1/2)xCdxv²xA

where:
  • Fd = drag force (Newtons)
  • Cd = drag coefficient (dimensionless)
  • ρ = fluid density (kg/m³)
  • v = velocity of the object relative to the fluid (m/s)
  • A = reference area, typically the frontal area perpendicular to the flow (m²)
For the Maverick, A is constrained to either 29 square feet for non 4K Towing Package and 40 square feet with.

Apologies for nerding out. I must constrain my inner Nerd bogeyman.

It looks like a nice aerodynamic lightweight trailer.
I didn't see that it had brakes, and depending on how much you load it (rated at 2200 GVWR) you could be over limit in some areas for trailer brake requirements.
IMHO trailer brakes are a very good to have as they can make a big difference, even if they are not legally required, when you are in a situation that requires a panic stop.
Here's a list of trailer requirements by state.
Hopefully you added the 4K tow package, which has some nice upgrades:
  • Trailer Brake Controller
  • Trailer Hitch (Class III) 2-inch Receiver with 4-pin and 7-pin Connector
  • Transmission Oil Cooler
  • Upgraded Cooling Fan
If not, you'll want to be careful how much you load.
