Hopefully, my mistake helps some folks. I recently bought a Tremor and wanted to replace the chrome lug nuts with black ones. Initially I bought the Gorilla nuts that people on the forum were using but they’re too long. I wasn’t going for that long spiked lug nut look that some of the semi truckers annd dullies do. :cautious: After that I found a company called Threadstrong that sells black stainless steel nuts and they’re US made(!). They’re a matte black and the quality seems good. No nicks or scratches when I received them and no marks from installing. I’ve mostly always used Gorilla lug nuts in the past but I kind of think these are nicer. Some pictures below for reference.

They are still 2-piece 'clad' lug nuts as opposed to solid, correct?

thanks

thats what I was thinking of. if those are 2 piece nuts keep your impact wrench away and you'll be fine

Correct. I’ve not ever had an issue with swelling so I’m not too worried. If I do, I’ll figure it out at that time.

They claim they’re more durable, but of course they’re going to say that. Here’s some more info: https://threadstrong.us/blogs/tech-talk/black-chrome-lug-nuts-are-they-right-for-you

Edit: From what I’ve seen impacts wear all lug nuts over time and guys at tire shops typically aren’t careful which means they often nick the holes too. When I can, I prefer to mount/remove the wheels myself In order to minimize it. It’s not that much work to do with a ratchet.

Thank you! I have actually been looking for an exact OEM replacement and I had these saved on my Amazon account (not prime though) so I was a bit hesitant to get them and decided to wait until I actually had my Maverick so that I could compare.

If anyone is interested, here is a direct affiliate link https://amzn.to/48UTnH1

Seems to be cheaper on Amazon than their website, yet they are still a bit pricey compared to the usual Gorilla lugs. But for an exact match in black, I am definitely getting these for BAP wheels

From Gorilla's catalog:
91148BC (optional 91147BCB) are the closest to OEM in size.
So, as not to advertise, just search and use the shopping option to find what I just looked at.
Note the price shown for set of 20

It's a shame that the Threadstrongs only have a 1 year warranty, If they are so confident in their product, it should be longer, or lifetime like the McGards.

I would be curious to compare those against the 61148FSBC. I reached out to Gorilla about a shorter lug that would work and they said they didn’t have one, screenshot below.

The 61148BCX are the closest to Ford style and are 1.62" long. They have the bump on the top like factory. The FSBC are flat tops like GM/Mopar and slightly taller.

Those are not correct, they do not have the factory style bulge, those are just standard acorn. The 61148 is closest to factory with the correct bulge.

My apologies ... my info was wrong.
@kdiff and @A.Bursell were correct .. the 61148 series is the (Gorilla) match to OEM - just taller.

Left to right in the pic below:
1. The wrong lug I mentioned -91148 series. 36mm tall - probably ok for aftermarket wheels.
2. OEM from my own Maverick. 36mm tall
3. 61148 series - 42mm tall
