Android Auto "COOLWALK" split screen (public stable release) working on my base XL Maverick!

Think I might have a lead on why some folks lose it when upgrading phones. A bunch of people on Reddit are talking about how when they upgraded or updated to Android 13, the lost CoolWalk. The theory is that Google isn't rolling it out to the newest Android Operating system users, but is testing it more widely with folks who have "older" versions of Android. Not sure why they would do that other than possibly there being a ton more people with older phones than newer phones.

I received Cool Walk on my truck Feb.1, almost missed seeing the little new icon on the lower left side of the screen. Gave it a tap and BAM it was there. It may have been there for awhile and I didn't notice the split screen icon. Anyway Google's release of Cool Walk is not tied to your version of Android, I have a newer OnePlus phone running android 13.

Ok, looking for some help. A few days ago, I noticed the clock on my Android auto screen moved from the top right to the bottom right and it now looks like what people are reporting as coolwalk, except I never get anything but the 1 main screen. Is there an update I may have gotten they would have moved the click without getting the full coolwalk interface somehow? I have looked everywhere for how to enable the multiple windows but so far, no luck.

Do you see a new icon in the lower left side? One is for split screen and another for the main menu and apps.

Nope, just the one for all the apps, like three rows of 3 Dots or something like that, not the other one that looks like split screens

Figured it out. I was using Waze, which apparently isn't coolwalk ready yet Switching to Google maps gave my the split screen icon I was missing.

One thing that disappoints me about Android Auto and have only seen the new coolwalk version is that when using the sxm on my car, it's better reception but can not see what's playing. Doing it on the phone the little window is nice and can tap on it to make it the one screen as the Lariat sxm on the car. Let me know if there is something I can do to have the Mav's sxm appear in one of the split screens.

Probably that the SXM app is not yet CoolWalk compatible, and so does not display properly (yet). If I am understanding you correctly about the problem. Sort of like @sjones4817 who had trouble with Waze.

Perhaps the app that comes with the Maverick as the phone app displays fine.

Android Auto can only display content from your phone. It cannot show you factory navigation or media sources (AM/FM, SXM, flash drive, etc.). Think of AA as an app running on top of Sync 3 that projects your phone onto the car's screen.

SXM in Android Auto streams over your phone's cell network.

To access the native Lariat Luxury Pkg SXM (which uses your Maverick's built-in antenna to connect to satellites), you'll need to exit Android Auto (any nav will keep running in the background). To do so:

1. Tap the icon in the bottom left
2. Tap Ford - this exits you back to Sync 3
3. Tap Audio on bottom left if needed
4. To return, tap Android Auto or Maps at the bottom

The other option if you just want to see which station you're listening to but still scroll forward/back one at a time, is you can scroll down on the instrument cluster (using the directional pad on the right side of the steering wheel). That'll show what station is currently selected right in front of you.

Some vehicles with larger screens allow you to run a "windowed" version of CarPlay/Android Auto with an additional pane on the right. The 8" screen in a Maverick does not. Here's what that looks like in a 2023 Escape, showing factory navigation (but you can show audio there as well).

Thanks @jsus . If I do not connect my phone and leave sxm running before turning off the truck. When I turn it on and then plug in the phone the native syn 3 plays, but you can not see the channel, change channels but have not tried using the direction arrows on the steering wheel. May try that and thanks all for the comments and information!

Pressing the speaker button next to the volume knob can also be a slightly quicker way back to the Sync system. It takes you to the sound settings screen, but then you can switch to the audio screen via onscreen icon.
