Breakthrough! Sort of...

Hate to call it a "hack", but I found a "hack" to force a sort of semi-CoolWalk to display. If you manually force the DPI down to 100, it does tile on the screen. I stepped down from 160 in increments of 10 and it took lowering it to 100 to get it to change. Tradeoff is it is not pretty, you can't drag tiles from place to place, and it makes your maps really small text/road labels, etc...

It also puts the menu down the left side of the screen, which is a bit weird.

I think I am going to drive with it like this for a while (few days to weeks) and then occasionally set it back to allowing the "vehicle" to decide the DPI. See if CoolWalk shows up for real for me.

VICTORY IS MINE!!!!

Thanks to Reddit.

So the wise folks over at /r/AndroidAuto clued me in to a quirk with the S22 where transferring all your data and settings from an old Samsung phone to a new one via the "Smart Switch" app that Samsung provides can break Android Auto in this way. They suggested I uninstall AA from the new phone, then transfer ONLY AA from the old phone to the new one via the same "Smart Switch" app that screwed me the first time. Why that would work is anyone's guess, but the idea is that it would bring over whatever settings I had that enabled CoolWalk from the old phone to the new phone. I was suspicious. But guess what...... CoolWalk is back baby! Did not take any photos, but looks like it did when I first made this thread in early January. Go look at the first post if you want to see. :)

Check your radios. Both mine and my moms pushed through this afternoon so apparently they have added more people to the list and I’m guessing a bigger percentage this time.

Silly question- Is the dual screen/cool-walk a settings toggle ? Thx

The new Android Auto display format. I haven’t messed with it at honestly yet but seems like a tap on a tile to go full screen and a button on bottom left to go back to tiles look. I assume you can change the tile numbers and what’s displayed also. Mine started with 3 and ended with 2 by the time I got home so I gotta read up on it a bit.

Same here for my Maverick. It's a little different I suppose. A few layout options.
I'm just glad my Screen2Auto still works.

I don't see that yet and I want to. What phone do you have?
Well, this started working today on my phone and truck. It was weird...I was on a call, the Bluetooth went wonky, so I unplugged the phone to finish talking. When I plugged it back in... Boom. Cool walk.

Got in my truck after work and there it was. "CoolWalk" split screen on my base XL Maverick. I'm not in the Android Auto Beta. So they flipped the switch on the server side. No recent Android Auto app update either. So it really was a server side switch they flipped for folks who had a reasonably recent version installed.

Just got it yesterday and am impressed. It actually seems to make the touch screen more responsive if that's possible.

@paneubert
(y) Thanks - this process allowed my Samsung Galaxy Active 8 to have the updated Coolwalk!

Entirely possible that the Android Auto team cleaned things up behind the scenes to go with this update. Seems a touch snappier to me as well.
