Android Auto "COOLWALK" split screen (public stable release) working on my base XL Maverick!

Google has done staged rollouts for years, it's all server side so you might get it today or you could get it in a few days.

You can test all you want in house and with a beta test but until it is fully public, it is quite possible to find a crucial bug once it starts rolling out to more users because there is too many variables across all the different devices and setups.

I know this first hand with android and finding a critical bug when you roll something out to everybody that you now have to fix yesterday is no fun.

I am in the Google Maps beta, but that didn't seem to have any impact on when I got CoolWalk. But maybe they let me have it a bit earlier than others due to that. Who knows. Haha.

It was android auto's beta that you needed, had nothing to do with Google maps.

Ok. So tested this. When Google maps is in the split screen mode, you can't swipe around to zoom in or out or move the map. To interact with Google maps when it is in split screen mode, you have to "full screen" Google maps first by tapping on that portion of the screen. Then you have the classic ability to drag and pinch and expand the map. And it DOES still have the "re-center" button that appears when you do so. Essentially it still acts just like it did before CoolWalk. Sorry for the bad news.

I have all the latest updates, and still had the old UI on my morning commute. It's most certainly a server-side roll out.

What sucks about that is I feel maps is too zoomed in by default and when u back out the odd and unnecessary giant re/center icon dominates the already small visible map footprint -

Yeah, it would be nice if there was something like a non visible timer where it automatically re-centered itself after 5 or 10 seconds. Maybe even user set in the preferences for the time range. I do like the ability to hit one button and have myself in the middle of the map, but I agree the button takes up a lot of real estate.

Got it my truck after work and there it was. "CoolWalk" split screen on my base XL Maverick. I'm not in the Android Auto Beta. So they flipped the switch on the server side. No recent Android Auto app update either. So it really was a server side switch they flipped for folks who had a reasonably recent version installed.

This is a cool feature for sure. CarPlay does something similar but I need to see if it is configurable. Mine automatically displays 3 screens which makes the map quite small.

Anyone in the North East get the update yet? I am in Ohio and looking forward to the upgrade but still waiting. Also does anyone know what the earliest Pixel and Samsung phone models are supported? I have a Pixel 2 with Andriod 11 and hope that is not the issue.

I noticed that as well.....wondered if there is a way to move it somewhere in the settings. Don't think so though.
