Hybrid and EcoBoost have different CV axles (This was posted by someone who had both). And the EcoBoost FWD and AWD have different CV axles (The passenger side axle has a different part number if it is FWD vs AWD but not the driver side). Tremor has different axles. Axles are different front to back and side to side. I think that may be 9 different axles with both front and rear for all the different truck options.

I would wait till out of warranty and I had a problem before replacing with an upgrade. But there is a market for this.

The Ford Pass app should have a smart CV axle life monitor and give them 10k miles for replacement lol.

Im at 25k miles and they are pretty bad. Didnt realize how bad they were til I hopped in a brand new Ford Escape rental.

My hybrid mav is currently in the shop waiting for axles so they can replace both sides.

The d/s has no sign of grease leaking or issues with the boots but it has enough play you can feel it just by pulling on the axle itself. The P/S has a small amount of grease leaking from the inner boot on the small clamp side and noticeable play as well.

I WON'T be paying for aftermarket axles + installation to fix an under spec Ford part. I will likely be trading in my maverick on a Ridgeline once the repair is completed.
I currently have a 2022 Ridgeline with 54K miles on it. At around 20k miles I had to have both front axles replaced, a strut, upper strut mount, rear drive shaft.... etc, etc etc. I think you see where I'm going with this. I'm actually lurking on this forum thinking about dumping this piece of crap for a Ford!!!! 😂

This has been an issue for all Mavericks regardless of two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, hybrid or ecoboost. It really doesn't even matter if it's lifted or lowered, there are plenty with stock axles that have had theirs fail.
💯 and regardless if it's a Ford part or upgraded aftermarket part that fixes the issue, as long as Ford pays for it as the issue should have already been recalled.

How did getting in a different vehicle tell you how worn your axles were? Just curious. CVs axles will click while turning and eventually while going straight when they are going bad other than that I know of no other indicator aside from visible boot failure.

LOL might want to spend some time on Ridline forums. I had one for an overnight test drive and was seriously considering one until I researched them.
Every car has something. I found 2010 era civics apparently have issues with engines blocks cracking and transmission issues, similar with new and newer civics. It seems like everything has issues, it's just part of life unfortunately. Apparently ridge lines are also known for transmission issues, particularly the newer ones with the 9 speed or whatever it is.

I presented the question a few months ago if the beefier CV axles from something like a tremor could be retrofitted to a hybrid, apparently they can't due the two different trucks have different transmissions. But with an AWD hybrid now confirmed, it stands to reason Ford will have beefed up the CV axles to handle what is basically guaranteed to be a higher power output. It's also likely they kept the same CVT as the normal hybrid due to how robust/proven that design is.

So there could be something there that works.

Interesting. So OP, how would the CVJ option reconcile their r&d with just one or two pairs of possible CV axles in their shop?

You will notice your CV axle failing by your truck shaking/vibrating under hard acceleration, and it will smooth out when you let off the accelerator pedal. (very noticeable getting up to highway speeds)

I have already ordered a pair of axles for my FX4 that will be sent to them for their r&d. There are several other axles for the Maverick that will need to be sent to them as well. I can't afford to purchase every single axle made for the Maverick to send to them, so as people are willing to do as I did, they will have their solutions for every variation. From what I understand, the problem between the axles is the same regardless of which axle it is. However, they said they are very thorough and will be completely disassembling it and reassembling and testing to find all weak points and come up with solutions for all of them..

Really appreciate you investigating this. You really went out of your way to let us know a solution. I also commend the people who will be taking these stock CV axles apart to find out what the cause is. I figure if I put aside some extra money over the course of my next 14,000 miles, I will have some money to purchase some re-vamped CV axles.

I guess no matter what the difference in smell is we all have a bunch of crap.

It really is wild that the maverick is going into the 4th year of production with no real competition. You would think with the overwhelming response Ford has received that another manufacturer would have jumped on development.
