The hybrid does not have a Start/Stop button.
Are you referring to the ignition switch?

Steve

Is it a true statement that a new Ford keypad SK4Z-14A626-A can't be programmed this way and that it HAS to be done by a dealer? Yes, I realize that the keypad can't do the slot, but I have a vague memory of programming one back in 2005 on a Ranger.
Roger that
I'm talking about an extra keyfob

Not sure, but it's possible.

Though the key communicates with the truck every time I get in it and start it. So maybe that's why.
It would be interesting to know if the locking/unlocking system is actually that separate from the starting system.

Both have to see a valid transponder it knows about, to cause it's action.

And in the scenario we are talking about - he still was unlocking the door with the fob to get in, just not locking it.

Until the problem unlock attempt. I think this was a computer hiccup.

Trim and year matters - because yes many hybrids do.

Replace backup slot with ignition slot.
Replace pressing start/stop with turning key to On position, then to Off position.

Did you get the correct MHZ radio transporter?
My Lariat came with a 315MHZ key fob, I first ordered a 900ish MHZ that didn't work, then I ordered the 315MHZ and it worked like a champ
I got this one that is 902mHz says it's for a 2022 Maverick. Mine is a 2022.

Lariat or non?
Or basically keyless entry or not?

From another thread below.

What codes does your fob have on it?

I made sure to look up the FCC ID from the original key before ordering one from Amazon It is located in tiny print in a cavity that is revealed when you pullout the manual key.

FCC ID = M3N-A2C93142300
Part number = 164-R8163 or HC3T-15K601-AD
This key runs at 315MHz

I purchased two of these keys - https://www.amazon.com/TUCKBOLD-Explorer-2018-2022-M3N-A2C93142300-Replacement/dp/B0D8QFGKKZ
Keyless Entry Remote suitable for Ford Ecosport 2018-2020, for Ford Edge 2017-2020, for Ford Explorer 2018-2020, for Ford F-150 2018-2020, for Ford F-250 2017-2020, for Ford F-350 2017-2020, for Ford F-450 2017-2020, for Ford F-550 2017-2020, for Ford Fusion 2017-2018, for Ford for Ranger 2019-2020.

Here's a short story for those who may experience a similar situation.

Firstly, in an effort to thwart relay theft, I disabled all vehicle connectivity just after I bought the Maverick. Touching the door handle to unlock the doors is disabled. Vehicle calling Ford to tell them what I've been up to and where, etc., is disabled. Remote start works without the Ford app. Two years and counting and the Maverick has never failed me.

-Until today-.,..

Anyway, situation resolved for now.
Thanks for listening, and if any of you have some insight into possibilities, please share.

Steve
Steve,
I'm guessing that your truck is not parked in a garage.
Seems to me your concern is the two person radio frequency interceptor teams that go around house's at night with an RFID loop. Picking up an amplifying your FOB signal. Then getting into your truck and driving it away. As a added layer of security.
You may want to look at purchasing a Faraday box to put your keys in at home.
The video provided below demonstrates it's use pretty well.

You might need to take a second look at your factory key fob to make sure.

I see I'm not the only paranoid person around. I have 4 vehicles with keyless start with the fobs dumped into a Faraday box in my kitchen. I know that it works because the key rings have Apple AirTags on them and they start chirping when the box is opened. Spares are in a bag in the fireproof pouch in a gun safe in the basement. I think I'm covered. :)

I've programmed the Intelligent keys (added keys) 4 times wirhout issues, 2019/2021/2024 but having problems with a 2026. Did Ford remove the feature? The manual only states to contact the dealer. If removed, they suck.

It sounds like you're running into a recent shift in Ford's security policy. For the 2026 model year, Ford has effectively removed the Customer Self-Service programming feature for Intelligent Access keys on several models, including the Maverick.
While previous years allowed you to add a third key using two "admin" keys via the backup slot, the 2026 manuals now direct users to the dealer because the "on-board" programming sequence has been disabled in the vehicle's software to enhance security.
