You need a "J" hook.

To go in the winch hole(s).

The large common ones (top) can be too large for the small size holes on our light-duty vehicles.

The smaller hooks (bottom) have been proven to work.

If you get your Mav stuck, the chances are really good that you will not be able to get to the transport tiedown holes way down under the vehicle to put the small j-hooks in without digging the vehicle out first. If you have to dig it out anyways, what's the point of the j-hooks?

and back where the bolt attaches there is an additional bracket welded to the "frame"

YES THE FX4 HAS AN ADDITIONAL BRACKET WELDED TH THE UNIBODY THAT THE LONG BOLTS ATTACH TO. HOWEVER WHAT ABOUT USEING A FLAT TOW KIT AND ATTACHING YOUR TOW HOOKS / FOG LIGHTS WHAT EVER YOU WANT

A flat-tow baseplate costs at least US$600. Its possible, but cost-prohibitive.
