It's so very handy in heavy and stop and go traffic.
Me: 24 Lariat hybrid - I have been testing my adaptive cruise in stop and go freeway traffic the last couple of days. I feel uneasy. I normally leave a larger interval driving than the adaptive cruise leaves. Also, it is my understanding [tap in if I am wrong] the brake lights don't activate and inform the vehicle following you that your vehicle is braking.

Probably because he cannot accelerate at will, while in between cars or he can accelerate when he is not trailing a vehicle.
it's very possible to drive much more aggressively than ACC and it does not work well in extremely dense traffic. I don't drive in anything like that, so I love my ACC.

that is incorrect. the brake lamps do illuminate when ACC brakes.

they also illuminate when a hybrid uses regenerative braking.

But you can’t accelerate at will while in between cars or when trailing a vehicle with ACC off either. And the gas pedal still works just fine with ACC on. But a driver still has to maintain situational awareness while using cruise control. It’s not like you go into a coma with it switched on.

You can easily set your preferred following distance while using cruise control—closer or farther back. There’s even a button for that. And as @colinl mentioned already, the brake lights illuminate when ACC applies the brakes.

Are you sure on that one? My brake lights would be on half the time I'm driving if that were the case.

There is a threshold. It might technically be using regen and not slowing much, and no brake lights.

I've heard 0.1G used as a reference but I don't know if that's real or just something a person threw out.

I had adaptive cruise on a 2022 Nissan Fontier I once owned. It was great in stop and go traffic. No need to keep playing with the accelerator and even if the truck came to a stop for less then a couple of seconds, when the traffic continued so did the adaptive cruise. No need to feel nervous and you get accustomed to it quickly. The brake lights do come on if the truck is braking regardless if you push on the brake pedal.

It's not quite that drastic it gradually slows you down as you approach the vehicle in front of you if your boxed in like some people are talking about it doesn't slam on the brakes it just slows you down you don't even really notice it much unless you're really cruising and the vehicle in front of you is doing 30 miles under the speed limit . As to your question about the brake lights I do not believe they illuminate but like I said it's a gradual the person behind you would have to be not paying attention in order to slam into you and as far as the distance in between you and the vehicle it is adjustable by pushing the ACC button multiple times will increase or decrease the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. I drive constantly in NY and CT and I love it but I do concede that in super heavy stop and go traffic there's no need to use it to begin with so I deactivate it until things lighten up again it's called a driving assist not a driving replacement . The one thing that definitely does take some getting used to and a little faith is when it's driving for you pretty interesting the way it feels when you're going around a corner and you're not doing anything to do it but I sure as hell won't be letting go of the steering wheel 😆

Thank you for that correction. I feel better knowing that is the case. I'll study the section in the owner's manual related to ACC.

Sheepishly I must admit that I did not read up on ACC in the Owner's Manual so thank you and others for the info. I feel a little better about ACC and I will find the setting for following distance and experiment to find a setting that makes me more comfortable.

Well I've decided to not proceed. With the additional hardware that has to be purchased which I estimate around $1500 then the work requires removing the front bumper cover and grill its just not worth all the work for the ACC. I understand that it won't effect the rest of the warranty but my fear is that any time you program a module it will leave a water mark. This could possible effect your warranty for other electrical issues you may have even though it's not related to the ACC install.
1500 is too steep.

Using the Ford pass points I got when I bought the car, the whole thing cost me less than $600.

By far the best modification to my XLT hybrid.

Can you list the parts. I might reconsider if the cost was only $600. I received $150 for my Fordpass so $450.

Fairway Ford parts will take your Ford pass points.

Here is the list of what I bought from them. I think this totaled about $550.

Then it was just a matter of some wire and a few more connectors. And modifying your existing grill.

You have to email them to make up an invoice and have them take your points.

Thank you very much for the list. How difficult was it to modify the existing grill? The total I had was from a thread that had a grill replacement. Where did you source the connectors and terminals?

Also how did you know I purchased from Fairway Ford?

Check out the link if the second post on this thread. Without a doubt, this is a significant time commitment but an incredible increase in the drivability of this vehicle.

If you decide to bite off this project, you will need to read through that entire thread in its entirety, entirely. And then again. And then again.

All of your questions will be answered.
