Acoustic Windshield

After driving an XLT and loaded Lariat/Lux back to back I will say that the Lariat is noticeably quieter with engine/road noise- I looked into the Acoustic windshields Ford and other manufacturers are using and this technology seems pretty impressive. Looks like Ford has been using these since 2009- Anyone have one and or have replaced a cracked unit and can speak to day to day usage/benefits ? Thanks-

Just the news I wanted to hear! The thought of it being quieter is the main reason I upped to the Lariat. Glad it will pay off.

Windshield replacement is free in Florida... just need to make sure they replace it with the Lariat windshield and not an XL/XLT one if it should it ever happen to crack.. Luckily after 10 years living here, I've only ever had a windshield crack on me once after the car was sitting out all day baking in a theme park parking lot..

Yes, this is Florida law and is covered under comprehensive vehicle insurance, you do not have to pay a deductible. Obviously if you decide to take a bat to your own windshield, you're SOL. But otherwise, any road damage or heat damage, just report to your insurance company and it gets replaced with an OEM windshield.

In SC you don't get charged for a windshield either but we all pay higher premiums to cover the free stuff. Agree if you need a replacement make sure they fit the correct one. Your Florida statute only says deductibles do not apply but your insurance company keeps track of how many windshields they pay out on your policy or at least they do in SC.

Ford comes and goes on this. My 2020 Escape has acoustic glass, the 2021's don't. Same with foam engine covers, although they disappeared in months.

As to glass, remember that a lot of folks have deducible that's greater than the cost of glass repair. Were deducible to apply, there would be no insurance benefit.

I am trying to find a real world replacement cost of one of these OEM acoustics - So many comprehensive polices do NOT cover glass sadly - It's an add on .

It will cover any cracked windshield, however it must be replaced with OEM.

I had an aftermarket tint on my Mazda windshield that cracked and when I was on the phone setting up the appointment with Safelite, they said they would not be able to replace the tint and it will be replaced with OEM or equivalent. I would have to get it retinted myself.

In the case of the maverick, I don't know who else would make the acoustic glass so I am figuring if it needs to be replaced, it would be with an OEM directly from Ford.

I'm curious about this, too. I live in New Mexico, and don't remember a vehicle I didn't have to replace a windshield on at least once. I carry $500 deductible and always have to pay out if pocket. The acoustic windshield "could" go over the deductible.

But: A friend had to replace a windshield on his Tesla. It was covered by insurance, but the cost was eye watering. Well north of $1000 as I remember.

Yep. In MA as well consumer laws entitled to choice of OEM or aftermarket (e.g. safelite). Also includes calibration of any driver assistance impacted by windshield replacement

The "free" windshield becomes a claim on your insurance. You don't pay a deductible but they can (and will) raise your rate due a comprehensive claim. I replaced one like this, they raised my rate and it stayed on my insurance for 3 years. The last couple of windshields I paid cash and did not claim. It is much cheaper in the long run. Maybe not so with the "acoustic type" if it is ultra-expensive.

I believe my replacement was either last year or year before. Rates never went up. I have Progressive.

If I remember correctly (which I barely remember what I did yesterday...), I contacted Safelite directly and they just asked for my policy information. May have even submitted everything online. Maybe it's different if you make an insurance claim and then they send someone out?
