It's tuned to pull from the traction (electric) motor first, provided the HVB has a charge, and then kicks on the ICE. It's the traction motor that provides torque from a stop or low engine rpms. - You basically have instant access to it's full 173 lbft of torque from the moment you touch the gas or lift off the brake, there's no 'restart' time for the traction motor. Makes spinning a front tire way to easy if you forget and jab the pedal with the wheels anything but perfectly strait. (Guilty without meaning to a couple of times, being used to having an AWD Outback 3.6 outback for several years).

If you turn on the hybrid coach, you'll see the electric portion fill at light throttle way before the ICE restarts, if you go heavier, it sort of maxes and then grows in length showing 'hybrid' mode, meaning both are running.

I just drive my Hybrid Maverick I don't put it in eco I don't look at the coach for my stops i just drive it if I need more power I push harder I never mainly in the county up hills down hills around many curves . In town very little and still get 42. MPH . My opinion just drive it 👍🙂👻

i like the look of your truck a lot, but i LOVE the Maverick decal on the lower front door. that is very cool Sir! if you dont mind could you please share where you got yours?

Sir I got both the Hood and Side from Etsy . there's is a small little one man shop up in New York. The gentleman's name is Michael . He's a little pricey but a very good quality product. I conversed back and forth with him to get exactly what I wanted he does custom work and he does make sure it's right. It took a little time to get it but definitely worth it plus he gives detailed instructions on how to put it on. I'm 67 years old and I did both the hood and sides if I can do it anyway can put them on. It just takes a little time and patience and a big bottle of soap and water. Hope this helps and I highly recommend him.

Yup I have not even looked at choices of drive modes. Heck I'm not even sure where they are..lol. Just don't care. D goes forward, R goes backwards, P = stop.
the different drive modes are a rabbit hole that a LOT of hybrid owners fall into, myself included. even with zero adjustment to driving style or habits i believe that Eco results in increased MPG, but i cant empirically prove that. is the better MPG or different performance characteristics worth stressing out over? i doubt it, but at the end of the day its your truck so its your decision.
i almost always drive in ECO maybe 85-90% of the time so i cant really authoritatively offer much insight on the practical effects of each individual driving mode. i do have one direct observation of a difference between ECO and Normal.
during highway driving it seems to me that when in Eco mode the Mav is noticeably more sluggish when responding to steering wheel speed increase inputs while in cruise control as opposed to the same inputs when in 'normal' mode. deceleration steering wheel input response seems identical to me.

and while we're discussing engine drive modes it seems to me that Ford could do a far better job of describing what exactly the different modes are being told what to do by the Engine Control module. this and other boards are full of opinions but not much hard info. where is the dyno testing using the various drive modes under controlled conditions? as in ; same run duration, distance with the same throttle inputs etc., etc. ? would be SHOCKED if Ford hadnt already looked at this kind of data, why not share it? after all anyone that owns or has access to a decent Dyno & can get their hands on a hybrid Mav and has some time on their hands or just the inclination in theory could do the same thing right?

I see that statement a lot, but I don't think it is accurate. You can accelerate just as fast in Eco mode as in Normal - you just have to press harder on the accelerator to do so.

Eco mode (and even more so - Slippery mode) change the throttle curve so that it becomes non-linear. By that I mean that the first bit of throttle deflection signals the engine for a lot less "real world" acceleration than the same range of throttle pedal movement would in "Normal" mode. The result is that most of us just use the same pedal deflection we always do (habits, you know) and wind up improving our fuel mileage. But if you really want (or need) to accelerate harder, just keep pressing the pedal, because by the time you get to full throttle, ALL the modes are basically providing the same "go" signal to the engine...

Slippery mode does a few other things (less regen braking force, more "coasting") that are intended to prevent breaking your tires loose on ice or other slippery surfaces, but tend to also contribute to even better fuel economy than "Eco" mode. GPSman gives a much better explanation that I do, but we've both posted about this elsewhere in the forums. Eco generally beats Normal, but Slippery can beat Eco by a significant margin, if you drive appropriately.
