I bought a used 22 XLT Hybrid with 23,000 miles on it. I really like the truck and the gas mileage. But I read all these posts about problems that can keep you stranded. My wife and I are planning a trip about 700+ miles one way to west Texas by big bend and I would like to take the Maverick but I want to enjoy the trip and not worry that the long block goes bad or battery problems. I could take my wife’s Honda HRV but really want to take the Maverick. The truck has worked flawlessly since I bought it and I put about 3,000 miles on it. How concerned should I be?
On my 4th year with 2022, only problem I have had is flat tires and because MY parking lot is full of nails, however a call to Ford and somebody was always here quick and changed tires? Also have AAA, so seems you would be rescued?

Some of the early Maverick (like mine) 3+years old, had the problems, but as long as the recalls were done, you should be fine. Enjoy your trip, and post your comments when you return home.

It's only 3 years old with 20,000 miles on it,you'll be fine. We just took our 15 year old dodge caravan with 167,000 miles on it from Michigan to the smokey mountains and back.

No major concerns at all.
Major problems are really rare.

0.01 % percent chance you will have issues.

99.99% chance you won't.

Expressed as odds, 1:10,000

Take the Maverick and have fun!

Just go for it far more trouble free mavericks than troubles.
don’t dare go look at the crv site. Remember the internet only houses mostly unhappy reports.
I’ve got just over 90k miles on my maverick and by the report you think it would have left me stranded long ago. Nope it’s been very good and I treat it rough.

Just drove 620 miles in my 2023 Lariet hybrid with 30k on it. It was comfortable, performed exceptionally well and I averaged 42.5 mpg on a mostly highway trip. I was cruising between 70 and 75 mph most of the time. Its a great truck to travel in.

I have a 2023 Lariat hybrid with almost 40,000 miles on it. I've driven it from Detroit to Seattle and back via all the national parks in between twice, and Detroit to Salt Lake City and back once. Not a hiccup. It is one of the most reliable vehicles that I've owned, and certainly the best gas mileage, averaging over 35 mpg. And I go five miles over the speed limit, which means 85 in some of the western states like Montana. Remember that for each complaint you see on here, there are hundreds if not thousands of happy Maverick owners. Only issue I've had is the deep sleep mode, and that's when I let it sit for a week or two in my driveway. Go have fun with it!

According to Ford, the Maverick only has battery problems when not in use for awhile. I would take that with a boulder of salt and be prepared. Two routes to take; bring along a jump start unit or better yet, just replace the wet cell battery with an AGM. I can pretty much guarantee you won't have any problems with the AGM battery.

Here's the link to a club discussion on the advantages of the AGM battery, where to buy one, and how to install. Either way, have a great trip and post pics. Happy and safe trails.

It Is not as simple as what you are saying. There are owners that have mentioned dead AGMs. Some like myself with multiple killed batteries. According to Ford it's a on going unresolved issue that they have applied multiple SSM's to, to attemp a fix. If you are required to drive it more to keep the battery from sulfation, then you loose the high mileage aspect and become a carsitter.

I don't anything about the 22 year model, I have the 2025 XLT AWD Hybrid and just finished an 1800 mile round trip from Virginia to Maine and it was awesome (except the part where a college kid bumped my tow hitch at a stop light - not hard, plastic cover broke but otherwise all good). No battery or other power or running problems. Averaged over 40 mpg for the whole trip. Not to shabby. Take your truck and love the ride.

Like other say, just make sure that you have a good roadside service and consider packing a few things like blankets, warm clothes, water, meals that can be eaten cold (MREs, not junk food), can-opener, fire extinguisher, flare gun, water purification tablets, compass, sextant, Geiger counter, foldable shovel, Ronco pocket fisherman, Swiss army knife, tow rope, night vision googles, Kevlar vests, life jackets, land shark cage, fire blanket, Pulaski tool, cloaking device, and pattern enhancers...

And you'll be fine!

I wasn't aware of Ford acknowledging that the 12v battery (AGM) is an ongoing problem. I have only read about one or two owners who have trouble with an AGM battery. Are there a few bad 'apples' in the manufacturing? Of course. I'm not saying it isn't a problem, but definitely much better results with the AGM over the OEM wet cell. Having said that, it really doesn't matter what the stats are if you're the one still having issues . . . still annoying as heck. Hope yours gets resolved sooner than later.
