Hey Folks, my 2-sided tape curse continues. I have never had a 2-sided tape or Velcro that worked. I just bought a nice little CD player, based on a video I had seen where a guy installed one on the front of his console box. I put the 2-sided tape on the player and let it "set" for 24 hours. I attached it to the console last night and, you guessed it, it had fallen off over night. I confess that I forgot to wipe off the console with alcohol, so I am doing that now, and will try it again. As I have NO EXPECTATION that the tape will hold, I ask you this: IS THERE ANY GLUE THAT WILL HOLD TWO SURFACES TOGETHER, ONE SURFACE METAL AND THE OTHER PLASTIC. Money is no object, but let's keep the glue under $10,000. After all, it is a $90 CD player. I look forward to hearing from you out there with ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with this problem. I want to hurry and get my CD player working, so that Dean Martin and I can CRUISE CHICKS.

JB Weld will hold anything to anything. You will have to temporarily brace/tape it somehow, but once that stuff sets properly, good luck getting it off. Ive also used the Loctite DL construction adhesive on quite a few projects, similar need to brace it while it cures, but rock solid.

Personally I'd be reluctant to permanently attach something like that, for resale reasons, probably not a lot of people's cup of tea. You might have better luck trying to find an existing bracket of some kind that would hold it, maybe drive by a car stereo place and see what they advise?

Back to 2-sided tape but 3M VHB is very strong stuff. Just make sure it's genuine--Chinese counterfeits aren't uncommon--and that the surface is clean beforehand with something like isopropyl alcohol (which is pretty much what 3M sells as Adhesion Promoter)

Thanks, LTE. I am 80, and don't buy anything with resale value in mind. I have ordered some of the JB SuperWeld that has the light on the end for their "10-second" curing. I will still give it 24 hours, but it is an impressive video: a glued handle holding up heavy brick. Thanks again.

In my experience the glue on sticky velcro is not very strong. I've had good luck with this stuff in the past but it certainly depends on how heavy the CD player is. If you want to make it so you can still use velcro so the CD player is removeable you can cut this to the size of the velcro strips and mount the velcro strips to this tape. I've done that before too.

Two small screws hold the CB Radio in place, end of story...at 72 it maybe the last vehicle I buy, let the kids figure it out, besides they drive beaters, it will be normal to them.

I used Velcro brand velcro & it's been holding the same type of CD player in my Maverick for 1-1/2 years, through 2 summers of heat & one winter, it's still snug.

Don, I need details. A photo would help also. Such as: where did you install the player? how did you attach the velcro to the player? vertical? horizontal? what quantity of velcro? My second try with the 2-sided tape failed, and before I use the JBWeld, I would like to try your velcro. Like I said before, I have never been able to get velcro to work on ANYTHING.

I do not know what plastic Ford uses, but that is the 1st question to have an answer to before Appling any type of adhesive to it
