If you know anyone in the Mass, CT or New England area area let us know. I plan on ordering a Maverick when they start taking orders again. I'd like to get something like this done and will see if they can skip anything they put on at the dealer.

Are they any good questions we could ask detailers to get an idea of the level of service they provide? I know there is a big range in auto detailers.
Hmm that’s a big area. Yes, Jim Goguen at Jim’s Auto Installations & Detail Center in Ipswich, Mass.

Thank you so much for so thoroughly explaining about ceramic coatings. Your truck is beautiful! Do you have a recommendation for someone in the Reno area? If not, and I make an appointment with you, how long do you need the vehicle?

I still don't have a build date but hoping to have it before winter.
I do know a couple people in the Reno/Tahoe area I can recommend. I’m also only a two hour drive so it’s really up to you.

Did you do anything to strip the factory wax? I know something like Dawn is normally terrible for a car, but in this case would you recommend it before claying and prepping the paint?
No factory wax and thankfully they don’t use cosmoline anymore so you shouldn’t have to worry about that. If I’m going to strip something though, I’ll use Adams Strip Soap.

Sorry for all the questions: (be easier if you just wrote a book)

Have a brand name for a "Sealant" to top off the Ceramic Coating???
I firmly stand behind P&S Detail Products and I use their sealant “Bead Maker” on EVERYTHING!!!

Your post has inspired me to ceramic coat mine. I'm not a professional detailer, but I do I have a YouTube premium account. LOL I plan on giving her a wash, iron remover, claybar, and then ceramic coat. Are you familiar with Ethos Pro Ceramic Wax? What are your thoughts?
Awesome, glad to hear. I am not familiar with Ethos products first hand but I would say I haven’t heard anything negative about their products. I would keep in mind that a Ceramic Wax is going to be a maintenance product and not something you’ll get long term results from.

That's a big difference in paint thicknesses when compared to the results you got on the Maverick!
Yea it is. That’s why I posted that report because it’s a good comparison at how paint thickness should be compared to what it can be in reality.

Thanks. This is great information. I’m no expert in automotive assembly line painting but I have to guess that some body panel members are painted differently from others……dip vs spray vs ……?
Yes you’re correct. Im not sure that the case with our Mavericks. However, you see it ALOT with Teslas. Body panels that don’t quite match in color (some are so off it’s insane that it passed inspection) or dont quite line up right. So they’re spraying these panels separately and then assembling the car in almost a Frankenstein type way.

Looks beautiful, do you think the paint thickness (or thin-ness😞) is related to the water based paint?
Not entirely sure but it could have something to do with it. We are seeing this from most manufacturers so I would say it’s more along the lines of just spraying them thin to cut cost, time, etc.

I'm chuckling because this thread has been picked up by other copycat sites with headlines like "Detailer says Maverick paint is thin and cheap". You've gone viral! All the fake sites that churn out zero-content-plagiarism articles are spreading the word.

That's the thing about the Web. You can present some well researched, non-sensational information. Then everyone out there who wants a quick buck or click will mangle what you said until it is completely unrecognizable. As long as it generates that mouse click and 1/3 penny advertising revenue...
Hahaha you’re very right, my friend. I was blown away when I started getting sent the articles and seeing how they can twist your words. One said “Sub Par” and those words never came out of my mouth. But they aren’t wrong lol. I’ll take it as a compliment I guess lol.

How much would this cost me if done from professional? Same truck

Depends on your area but I would look/expect to spend $1000-1200 realistically. Could be more, could be less depending on area.

I'm not sure how many assembly plants you've been to. I've been to more than I care to admit, Toyota, GM, Chrysler, BMW & Ford plants. As I said I worked 35 years for an OEM paint supplier. In all those years I've never seen separate panels being painted. Now if you are talking about fascias, mirror housings, wheel flares, bodyside moldings, door handles, etc. then yes they are all painted separately as they are all from outside suppliers, (ask me how I know). Ford had what was called Color Harmony Meetings. All the suppliers went to the assembly plant to view their parts on the vehicle. Usually one or two got their asses handed to them, (again ask me how I know). My point is it would not be cost prohibitive to paint vehicle panels separately. There are color standards to be met. But there is also a problem with that. My parts could be in spec say with a deltaE of <1.2 but on the red side. If the body is say the same but on the green side then you have a mismatch. Also with the styling of today's vehicles and the colors being developed today the color could be dead nuts but seeing from a different angle makes it look like it is off-color.
I'm not being critical but these are my experiences.
BTW your Maverick looks fantastic. That is really nice work done by you.

Great post and what a beauty! That truck is an extension of your attention to detail and the great care and consideration you give to your purchases. I also think it is somewhat of a tribute to the folks who designed and built the truck. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, I appreciate that lots!
