8" screen (Sync 3) upgraded to 12" screen (Sync 4)

Mine showed up yesterday. I opened the package... but don't have a morning/afternoon to dedicate for a week or so. Aiming for next Sat.

It was packed very well. The ACIM was wrapped in a million (maybe 2?) layers of bubble wrap - that's the unit that says to trash it if dropped.
The wiring looks good, lengths and wraps look factory.
The screen is New. Still has the Ford protective wrap on it and manufacture date is 02/2025.

I also got my USB port and 18AWG cabling and fuse tap to add USB ports to the inside of the top tray (sideways - taking up the space of the former front cubby). I use a wireless mag charger and this will eliminate cable runs.

I was thinking of adding a USB-C or USB connector when I had everything taken apart, but the base of the Bullet Point phone mount took up most of the space in the dash cubby.

I look forward to checking out how your installation turns out.

NICE! Will be waiting on an update. I am talking myself into it but would like to hear about and if possible see your install and how well it works.

My phone mount is similar to yours. I swapped the included mag mount for an ESR MagSafe charger. Wireless charging and it’s a very strong magnet. That’s why I’m thinking the sideways mount inside the tray should work. It’s only 1” wide (tall when sideways)

I wanted to share an update on the 12" head unit with Sync 4 that I purchased from Oem Plus. I finally got around to installing it, and the process went smoothly thanks to the clear instructions. The only challenging part was unplugging the connectors from the APIM, which were a bit stubborn, but everything else was straightforward.

I'm really pleased with the outcome. The unit looks completely OEM, and it truly enhances the interior of my Lariat. I believe this unit should have been standard in the Lariat trim. I'm still getting accustomed to some of the settings and the backup camera display, as my eyes were used to the 8" unit.

Overall, I feel it was well worth the $1200, purely for the improved aesthetics.

@Mavreezy Here’s how I ended up doing the USB charger up top. My bracing was in the way too - once I took the top off, I had to think of other ways. I trimmed the cosmetic edges of the charger and it still wouldn’t fit, so it became a surface mount inside the tray. Lol

It'll totally fit...

Nope. Even with trimming the mounting brace is in the way. So, I just ran a hole for the wire (straight drop to the fuse box)

Yup. Dropped the 18AWG straight down to the fuse box, gave it some extra in case I need some flex to remove the top tray again, but otherwise tied it all up and did a fuse tap on Fuse 3 (for mine, just the auto-dimming mirror).

I will still keep an out for a smaller USB form mount. This was a std switch size and still too big. It does have both USB-C and USB-A with PD, so it fits my needs. I'd be OK with a small extension mount for just USB-C in the tray and this or another charger double side taped to the empty cubby space too. That would be tiny

Anybody that has done the mod conversion update have you tried your CarPlay to see if it updated to the new widgets.
I just bought the Ottocast to do CarPlay and TV, etc. however when it links up it doesn’t give you a full screen CarPlay, and there’s no way to full screen and widgets don’t show.
