Thanks for sharing. I wasn't aware this was an option. I'll wait for a sale and grab one. The screen is my biggest frustration with my Mav. And its a small complaint; I am very happy with this truck. $1200 to keep me happy and delay a $30k 'upgrade'.

Time to install start to finish?

My understanding is that it will never go on sale because it was done in error.

Yes, it has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It detects and connects to my cellphone pretty quick. Much faster than the wireless Android Auto dongle I was using before.
Built in wireless android/carplay connect! Cool!

Can you still use all the features in the Ford APP?
I've still been able to use my Ford Pass app features like, unlocking/locking, honk the horn, gas level, GPS location and so forth.

From what I've read online, it was my understanding that you would lose the ability to use the Ford Pass app.

You might lose some features, but I haven't played with it enough to tell you which feature(s) you lose.

if not too much trouble, can you post a picture from the back side of the unit? i want to see if there is any gap where it connects.
The unit comes with a back-plate trim piece to cover the gap on the back of the touchscreen.

You still can rock the touchscreen without the trim piece, but it will look unfinished. I suffer from OCD, so without it, it would be a no-go.

I've attached some pictures below. The pictures don't do it justice. It looks better in person.

I haven't lost any of the Ford Pass features that I use (remote lock/unlock, horn, gas level, GPS location, etc). But I read that you do. Which ones, I couldn't tell you 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I took my time to make sure I didn't screw up anything. It took me approximately 3 hours from start to finish. Mind you, I was double and triple checking everything I did along the way.

If I was to install it again knowing what I know now, I could knock it out in 30 minutes. It was pretty easy.

Ya, the $1200 price tag would be deal breaker for me. I'm satisfied with the earlier 8" screen and have a hard time justifying the $$ for what I consider a moderate upgrade. I'd rather spend my money on upgrading to the DD fog light kit.
That said, I commend the OP for posting his experience.
I purchased this unit on aesthetics alone, nothing else. The $1200 price is not worth the software upgrade (to me). In fact, I appreciated the simplicity, boring and outdated feature experience of the SYNC 3 software.

With that said, I love how this touchscreen looks. The cost was worth it to me because it saved me from spending thousands of dollars buying the 2025 Lariat just to get the bigger touchscreen.

Other than updating can anyone post the features that don’t work now?

I wanted to share an update on the 12" head unit with Sync 4 that I purchased from Oem Plus. I finally got around to installing it, and the process went smoothly thanks to the clear instructions. The only challenging part was unplugging the connectors from the APIM, which were a bit stubborn, but everything else was straightforward.

I'm really pleased with the outcome. The unit looks completely OEM, and it truly enhances the interior of my Lariat. I believe this unit should have been standard in the Lariat trim. I'm still getting accustomed to some of the settings and the backup camera display, as my eyes were used to the 8" unit.

Overall, I feel it was well worth the $1200, purely for the improved aesthetics.

I've attached a few pictures of the before and after.

If you don't mind me asking - what was the cost for the unit, and did you have to pull the dash to do the upgrade?
Can you give a short detail description if you wouldn't mind. Thanks

Don’t have to pull dash only tray behind screen ( get a set of plastic tools)remove 3 bolts and pull forward .
Remove ac/heat controller using same tools then ACM is removed with 4 -7mm bolts there are a number of threads on here with pics
Understand price is close to $2000 now if you don’t have Sync 3

We all try to make the best decisions based on not only on $$ but our personal preferences, and clearly for you, you chose wisely. I hope you didn't take my comments as any type of criticism of your decision.
