I wanted to share an update on the 12" head unit with Sync 4 that I purchased from Oem Plus. I finally got around to installing it, and the process went smoothly thanks to the clear instructions. The only challenging part was unplugging the connectors from the APIM, which were a bit stubborn, but everything else was straightforward.

I'm really pleased with the outcome. The unit looks completely OEM, and it truly enhances the interior of my Lariat. I believe this unit should have been standard in the Lariat trim. I'm still getting accustomed to some of the settings and the backup camera display, as my eyes were used to the 8" unit.

Overall, I feel it was well worth the $1200, purely for the improved aesthetics.

I've attached a few pictures of the before and after.

How much taller is it than the 8" Does it block your view at all?

This is excellent. Would be amazing if someone duplicated your work and created a tutorial or video.

How hard was it to disassemble, and is the replacement screen less grainy / washed out than the original screen?

I don't mind the size of the 1st gen screen since it's about the same as the double DIN aftermarket units I had used for years, but if someone came out with a replacement screen that deleted the cubby for more space + higher resolution with better contrast, for under $400-500, that would be a very compelling upgrade.

Totally agree. That stock screen is real budget bin. The response time of the module is just as bad.

There are plenty of videos online. I watched a few to get a better idea on the installation.

It wasn't difficult. A plastic trim removal kit is your best friend. It's just pulling and popping back into place.

The new 12" screen is much sharper and less grainy than the factory 8". My eyes do find the reverse camera quality a little less appealing. I guess my eyes still haven't gotten used to it.

Does this give you wireless Android Auto? I like a larger screen while still having physical HVAC controls.
Yes, it has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It detects and connects to my cellphone pretty quick. Much faster than the wireless Android Auto dongle I was using before.
