Description:

"My name is Jason Fenske, and I have a problem. I buy the wrong cars! I bought a Tesla Model 3 Midrange, a '24 GR Corolla, and a Lucid Air that’s had… many problems. But my Ford Maverick takes the cake, because here’s what I said when I bought it, just a few months before Ford made a major announcement: “Now this is not the hybrid, I waited a couple of years before buying a Maverick because I was desperately hoping for either an AWD hybrid, or a plug-in variant, but it doesn’t seem we’ll get either.”

Yeah... I published a video about buying my Ford Maverick in May 2024, and in July 2024, two months later, they announced the Hybrid AWD variant. Incredible. For basically the past two years, I thought... dang, I bought the wrong truck. Here's the story of how things played out, after finally getting my hands on the new Hybrid AWD Maverick."

I get the sentiment. I always seem to buy the wrong thing as well. I have a unicorn in my Maverick as it was the one year of stripped down Lariat meaning I am missing a few features that came standard in every other year Lariat.

Oh well, I like Bruce. I was telling my wife this weekend the only reason I get rid of it is if the new Lightning that has a gas generator is compelling.

Thanks for all the tech explain. Very interesting and concise as well. I like the Maverick size. It is totally functional for most every American’s second car. Especially in residential settings. But what is this thing about so many user’s having auxiliary battery and dome lighting problems and every day falling into power save mode issues?

Ha. In 2000, I was shopping for a VR6 Jetta, and the salesman said "You know, they are about to start shipping this 1.8 turbo engine, if you are interested." Reallllly? :inspect:

Bought the 1.8T/5M, and as soon as it was broken in, I had the ECU out and shipped to California for tuning. Put 175,000 miles on that Jetta and I mostly hated it by the end - but the power delivery was a riot. Totally undriveable in the rain, even on good tires.

You are 100% correct. But no offense - if that was the title of Jason's video, it would get zero clicks. :D

Not familiar with this channel, but I like how he has a pre-facelift and post-facelift models side by side to compare. Seeing that the there is only a 14% difference in EB AWD vs Hybrid AWD for highway MPG is surprising. I figured it would've been more.

I own both the before and after 24 hybrid and a 25 hybrid AWD 4 k tow. Both are great trucks. 24 is a little quieter and smoother riding and get about 4 mpg better fuel mileage. Both have gone into deep sleep mode when I don’t drive them for several days. The 24 sat for 10 days one time during a long period of snow and ice. Was still able to open doors with key fob, no dome lights or dash lights but it started right up.

Highway driving isn't that different. But city and suburban driving is soooo much better that it only takes a relatively small amount to make the hybrid worth it if fuel economy is the priority.
