That's great gas mileage, but I have to admit being a little surprised that the average is 39 when it says 49 - so not much less than half - of the miles were electric, meaning ICE was not even running.

I'm curious to know how the computer calculates that, as the engine will still need to run if the battery is low, or to help power accessories and such if the drain level is too high. I have a feeling that it's not very exact, especially when the latest TFL mpg video showed the computer was significantly off (showing much better numbers than actual).

What does 5:25:42 mean? Does it mean that you drove only 112 miles in 5 hours and 25 minutes? Average 20 mph? Seems very odd.

We had a 2020 AWD Escape hybrid for a while. We had just slightly better numbers overall than this with about 6K miles on it before we sold it. I think this is probably very realistic. Especiallly if you're doing normal high-speed driving, at say 65-80 MPH

In ICE vehicles, that's usually how long the engine was running. I'm not sure how it works with hybrids or anything with start/stop technology. Probably starts the clock when the vehicle is started and keeps the tally running until the vehicle is turned off....but that's just my guess

Looks like OP is in CA. As a former NYer, 5 hours for 112 miles isn't that abnormal if that is city driving. Plus, perhaps we can assume a lot of idle time included - sitting in your new truck, with it "ON" (since the hybrid isn't always running) and playing with the gadgets, etc., and not necessarily drive-time but operating time. That's how Ford's MPG computer calculates it, so it's actually probably higher than 39 would be my 2¢

On the TFL mpg video they overfilled the tank completely going against the warning to not do that. So take their numbers with a grain of salt. The proper way is to stop fueling when the nozzle shuts off the first time.

Of course the best way to calculate MPG is the paper way. After filling up by "stop fueling when the nozzle shuts off the first time" is:

Miles driven / Gallons put in as shown on the gas receipt = MPG

That said for that to happen hybrid owners will need to travel 450+ miles for the first fill up.

As for how the computer calculates MPG numbers it is pretty simple as:

Miles driven / fuel used = MPG

It doesn't matter if the ICE engine is running to charge the HVB or heat the cabin or drive the wheels if gas is used it is in the fuel amount used.

Real world hybrid mileage.

With 112 miles driven I’m showing 39.2 average mpg with 380 left in the tank to empty. This is mixed freeway and city driving.

What does the green (left hand) part of the left dial mean. I understand the %power, but does the dial on the zero mean the drive battery is fully charged? Then it moves to the left as the battery discharges? (If I ever get it, this will be my first hybrid.)

The power dial is a measure of how much power is in use. Green is the electric motor, the white is the ICE.
