I thought this was an interesting video becuase there are allot of folks who run to put AT Tires on their Mavericks, only to barely go off of pavement at all... Everybody looks at off road tests when purchasing AT Tires, but what are they like on the road?

Let's get this out of the way before this thread turns into a slug fest (been allot of that on MTC lately!). I'm not being critical with my opening statement.. I understand equipping your vehicle for 'worst case scenario'.... I mean, I bought EB/AWD/4K tow, and I still haven't towed anything heavier than 2k yet, nor traveled above 5.5k feet with my Maverick, so I haven't really utilized the capabilities that I paid for either... I live in a glass house, not throwing stones.

I have replaced my AS tires (sold the wheel/tire combo) with larger AS tires (needed new tires for the new rims) because all of my camping will be accessible via maintained gravel roads or pavement... But again... I perhaps unnecessarily bought larger tires for the perceived comfort when operating in Mexico. I'm curious, what would have been the result if I had been tempted to go AT for my replacement tires with my driving scenarios? Okay on with the video:

Twelve selections from the On-Road, Off-Road, and Rugged All-Terrain categories comprise this All-Terrain tire test to see how they stack up when it comes to daily driving. A/T tires excel off the beaten path, but what about the rest of the time? The popular aesthetics of this category lead to many using them on their daily drivers. So, what are you sacrificing by choosing these products for your concrete journeys? Noise, comfort, handling, and safety are all considered as we test all-terrain off-road tires on the road!

Decent review except they are several months behind. Summer tests during winter? A cliffhanger to wait for the winter results? Many places have had snow back in October.

I watched this awhile ago and thought the same thing. Snow traction is real important. I did go with the Cooper Road + Trail AT last week on my new truck. (Traded in the Pirelli ATRs) So far so good. Went 245/65/17. Rides better with the taller sidewall, quiet, Good if not better steering, seemed good in the few inches of snow I've been in. I'll post a detailed review after I've put a few thousand miles on them.

Tire choice boils down to where you drive the most. I'm mostly in the city, four seasons, few trips up in northern Michigan on two tracks, etc.. The Cooper made the most sense for me.

Getting people interested and thinking about buying tires for spring/summer?
Because I'm not an incredibly patient person I usually buy seasonal tires at least 2 months in advance to beat the tire shop rush so a summer tire test now suits my buying tactics.

Looks like a good test. Would have liked to see them test it against some popular all season touring tires for wet conditions, braking etc.
Agreed! I'm not overly impressed with the wet traction of my OEM Falken A/T3W's, I'm curious how a test vs a Defender or CC2 would play out, if it would make sense to get a set of "summer" tires, and save the A/T's for winter use.

Moved to Idaho (from Huntington Beach, CA) a few months ago and new it was time to change my original stock tires for some A/T's. I really struggled with this never having to purchase A/T tires before. I did my research and was down to (Falken Wildpeak, Toyo Open Country & Cooper Road & Trail), but my new dealership in Boise came thru and highly recommended the "Cooper Discoverer R&T A/T. It has only snowed a couple of times so far in town, but I have taken them up to the mountains to test them out in the snow / Ice...did great. I know I'll be doing some off pavement driving (following the rivers), but mostly 90% pavement so road noise is important for me. After a short 3 weeks I'm very pleased and happy with my purchase!!

Hi Everyone: I just picked up my 2025 Maverick last weekend and I switched out the tires to the Cooper Discoverer Road + Trail. I stayed with the stock size. 225/65R17 and they are good. We had a few inches of snow and they performed flawlessly. I am excited to drive in the rain to see their wet traction. I chose these tires because of Tire Racks reviews and I like the look of them vs the stock Continentals.

Here in S Texas, getting warnings of winter blast. Might see sleet/snow/ice. Drivers down here don’t know how to drive on icy roads. And for that reason I keep my Maverick, vehicles in the garage.

Interesting info about tires. I drive on roads, never off roading. But like to keep up with the Jones, have truck with mean tires. 😝

And I hate buying tires. So many out there.

Well living in the Desert SouthWest at less than 5', I don't have to worry about ice and snow (except the freak 4" snow snow storms that melt by noon 2 or 3 times a winter). However, many purchase A/T tires for offroading here.... So, this test probably benefits those folks more than those who deal with appreciable amounts of snow. I gave up that lifestyle in Dec 2005.

The stock tires are clearly Interstate quiet tires.
I thought about it since it snowed here three days after I picked my '25 up last week and I just parked it in the garage. For now, the wife's Subaru will get snow duty and our back country camping days have been swapped over the grand parenting. Snow on pavement is a different proposition than getting stuck in the slush or mud miles from civilization as well.

thanks for the video..
I'm still running the OEM Continental tires, will do until they need replacement.
Then will definitely be looking at AT, do enough bad dirt road driving that the AT is a noticeable improvement over road tires. Atturo trail blade A/T is currently on my old Ford and I've been happy with them, reasonably quiet and no big drop in mpg, maybe 1 or less.
