I just returned from my "bucket list" road trip in my Maverick. I needed 16 states toward all 50. I had to drive through 25 states to check off the 16.

6,261 miles. 15 days. 31.9 MPG on regular unleaded. 125 hours of driving time. 25 states. 1 gallon of windshield wiper fluid. One cracked tail light lens (and probably one dead bird). Three small rock chips. Oil life monitor showing 42% remaining; but taking it in for an oil change next week. I had it changed at 1100 miles a few days before the trip. Running Ford/Motorcraft full synthetic using Ford Pass points.

Saw one Maverick the entire trip. It was a Cactus gray one near Danbury, CT on the evening of June 1.

The infotainment system went blank on me one time and I had to do the reset thing with the open door, unlock magic sequence. After several minutes and a few ignition on/off cycles it came back and never happened again. Seems like it happened when I left my iPhone plugged it when starting it. I made sure to unplug the iPhone when turning off the engine every time and it never happened again. Not sure if it was just coincidental or the cause. Overall this was a minor inconvenience.

States driven thru: TX, OK, KS, SD, ND, WI, MN, IA, IL, IN, OH, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, DE, MD, MD, VA, WV, TN, GA, AL, MS, AR

Overall: the Maverick performed well and rode very comfortably.

Ohio was nice. Stayed in Columbus downtown near the convention center. Discovered Jeff Ruby”s steakhouse. Very good steak.

I hit a bird doing 70 in SD. I was looking all over for broken something on the front and never did see anything. Must have got sucked under and out the back. Wife spotted the star crack the next day. Tail light is still working. Just a small star crack in the lens.

Those Pheasants love doing kamakazi attacks on trucks around here for some reason. Glad to hear you had a blast on your trip. (y)

Oh wow that's very impressive!

Did you guys have to stay in the hotel/motel or straight slept in the truck?

I did see several pheasants. But the bird I hit was much smaller.

You hit a bird at 70mph and cracked a tail light? I don't understand the logistics of this.

Me neither. 😀. While I am not 100% certain, it is the most plausible scenario. My best guess is the bird hit the lower front part of the truck, got pulled under by the wind, and exited out the back, striking the tail light. I found no damage on the hood, grille or fascia area of the front. All I know for sure is I hit a bird and the next day discovered a small crack on the tail light lens.

Just say you hit a bird, driving in reverse, at 70 MPH. People would ask less questions about the bird.
