Used to love to watch his show Overhaulin just to see him work his magic based upon a sketch that he drew of the "upgraded" vehicle. He never disappointed.
It has two things going for it - first, it's cheap which will allow more people to buy them, second it's a solid platform with room for improvement. The ecoboost can easily have a lot more horsepower wrung out of it. It's 250hp stock and people are saying it could easily be tuned to 300+. Wait until the really skilled guys get their hands on it.Master at work..
The Mav is going to be HOT for the aftermarket. This is gonna be fun.
There are already tuning chip makers claiming to get to 300hp 350lbft for less than a grand. It has two things going for it - first, it's cheap which will allow more people to buy them, second it's a solid platform with room for improvement. The aftermarket will be more than nuts. It will be better than the 90s. Just give it time. And imagine what will happen if Ford manages to shoehorn a 2.3 or 2.7 into it? Hot is an understatement.
Better yet, once it becomes clear that the mav is a winning formula, every other manufacturer is going to want a piece of the market. What happens when there are a half dozen models competing where right now there are only two?
Ford has been very smart in putting together an awesome budget truck from basically off the shelf components. Opening up the low end of the market and doing it profitably will carry them a long way.
