Greetings,

I believe I am one of a very few people driving a maverick around Europe. Recently installed a 12v dc 400w 230v AC inverter. Previously installed 12v cig style outlet with 2x USB on the opposite harness. I’ve blown 2 fuses, 20amp “m-case - Little Fuse” brand, which are impossible to find here. It is Number 84 in the engine bay panel. If anyone has the specific part number for these please share. Also, be advised both harnesses share the single 20 amp fuse. I believe Ford’s factory inverter is running off a 60 amp fuse. So not sure how other members are accomplishing their installs especially with the small gauge wire supplied by Ford. I’m open to suggestions.

20 amps isn't big enough for a 400W inverter. 400/13.5 = 30 amp draw.

Remember WVA! (Watts = Volts x Amps) In this case 400w = 12v x 33amps.

I found that out the hard way. Anyone know if the wiring will handle a 30 amp fuse safely? Especially as it surges when powering on.
Agreed. Even this Tripp-Lite 375watt/240V inverter pulls 25 amps. https://assets.tripplite.com/product-pdfs/en/pvint375.pdf

Any chance you have a 4K-equipped truck?

No 4K package. It’s an XLT with the FX4 kit and Co-Pilot 360. Back to an original question, anyone find the ford part number for the 20amp M-type fuse?

Wires don't mind surges but sensitive electronics might.

You want to use 10 gauge for what's feeding the inverter.

Yeah - it's a common misconception that fuses are sized to protect the electronics, which is not the case... Fuses are sized according to the wire size and are intended to protect the wiring from overheating and causing fire. That's it. The electronics have their own means of dealing with power surges and other variations. This is a really big deal in aircraft wiring, where the designers use the smallest size wire that will carry the planned electrical load, with the intent to save as much weight as possible, while still supplying the needed power to the circuit.

That practice is rapidly making its way into the auto industry as the cost of copper, aluminum, and other alternatives skyrocket... Gotta keep those costs down!

If you ever see this late response:
This is what I found: maybe the FORD 400 watt inverter is using the 20 amp fuze continually to create two 60 volt alternating currents controlling the phases to result in 120 volts alternating

What is the difference between single phase and split-phase inverter?

Ford Maverick 400w inverter blowing fuses ILR5pa9BY4Wc2444T4RNK5YgTB9N4fCFOoCHbzEK_dcAEreQ&s

Single phase power systems are defined by having an AC source with only one voltage waveform. A split-phase power system is one with multiple (in-phase) AC voltage sources connected in series, delivering power to loads at more than one voltage, with more than two wires.
